My Latest: Glock chest holster
chuck123wapati replied to Dwight's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I thank you Dwight for allowing me to copy your design a bit. It is no where as nice looking as yours but it sure does fill a niche for me. This is the prototype for a rig i can use on all of my side holsters. I added a couple of slots to the holsters making some options for how the holster hangs. I think i can pretty it up some. -
welcome to the forum now get to work and answer the question about foam glue a guy is trying to do a seat cover LOL.
-
what type of foam is the key to getting the right glue. Some glues or rather the drying agents used will melt some foams instantly. it wont take long to find out if you have a compatibale glue.

That is beautiful Fred!! Things i will never see in person!

Lets talk about sales (or lack thereof)

yea i agree sucessful business require hard work and patience. patience to allow the business to grow at its own rate and the patience to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hard work is the catalyst. Ive read a thousand success stories pretty much the dominate theme is 16 hour days! If you plan to borrow a ton o money to buy a ton of cool tools because you have no patience to save and expect to quit every day at five,go on a couple of vacations a year right from the start then you probably will fail. But then success is a personal thing that means diferent things to diferent people me i'm happy with a hot meal and a cold beer at the end of the day some want caviar and champagne. Working for yourself is a full time job. -
dang what a pretty place to live!!!

sometimes after those walks one of our favorite breakfasts is scrapple, fried in butter. its a cooked corn mush with pork bits and or liver seasoned to taste . Its boiled before hand then cooled in pans and makes loaves you cut into slices and cook. it tastes alot better than it sounds lol.

did you use it as a sled every winter as he did? lol -
pickling is basicly soaking the hide is an acid solution of about 2.5%, some use nicer/ safer acids than others. Think vineagr compared to battey acid, both can be used in the process. Then the hide is neutralized by flushing with water and baking soda. then the hide is broken by stretching as it dries then smoked or rubbed with oils If that doesn't happen then the hair and hide will deteriorate due to the high acid content. . If you find your hide is just pickled you can buy a tanning kit but beware its alot of work and why they are cheaper lol. I tan rabbit hides in this fashion. There are several ways to tan hides or furs, this is just one of them but its used mostly on hair on hides or furs because its a cheap method.
-
just wondering where did you get that hide? It is the belly of the snake you have shown most folks use the other side, the back. How was it tanned? Lees gluing method is top notch but i dont see how it will help in preventing cracking or wrinkleing when opened but i have never tried to put snake on a flap. now if your putting it around the sheath you will have to form the sheath then glue as lee says.

for me it was just part of the knife sale, you buy my knife you get my sheath too. Now i make more leather goods than knives, quicker and faster and much easier. most of my sales are for what the customer wants i've found not all people like what i like or will buy what i think they should like but they always buy what they like whether i like it or not. LOL now say that real fast -
hard to say without more info and or pictures, if tanned they will be soft and flexable and if wetted they will stay flexable after drying. pickling is one step of the tanning so a guy could possibly finish the process. you will have to experiment with some pieces IMO.

a gardenian, they wear beautiful white hats in thier country. i have lilacs which will be blooming very soon as well as wild roses. i dug the wild rose years ago from the mountains close by. The smell of the two together in the early morn is unbelievable.
-
it depends on how they were tanned or specificly if they were tanned at all. most have only been pickled and why they are cheaper to buy.
