super cool idea!!! don't know if the younger folks will know what it is lol. I was of the 8 track generation , my older brother had the reel to reel. I still have one in the basement but no reels -

So i was doing a holster today and the curvature of it was a pain in the a** to sew i couldn't see one side. So i figured i would try the two needles in one hole simultaneously trick. I've seen it done but it always felt awkward to me, i do one needle then the other. well it works well for finding your holes and helped a bunch however I still pierced the thread a couple of times right at the eye of the opposing needle and my thumb a couple times lol. But that's how a guy learns, leather work is always a new problem and a new solution with new techniques learned as we go.

dream catcher that tool some time I'll bet. Its alot more intricate than the ones i have seen.

nice job and a great idea for the fix!! I just did a rebuild on an old Hunter holster the guy had a small heritage 22 six shooter in a SAA holster and wanted it to fit right lol. it would have been just as easy to make a new one.

or get those sanding stick things women use for their fingernails, very handy on small things. The makeup isle is your friend, lots of goodies there for finishing and dying. -

nope i'm an idiot too! lol Living in a out the way place i have exactly three stores i can go look in before ordering on line. All are hardware or feed stores that carry a very limited supply of anything meant for leatherwork or anything else for that matter. So as I rummage through life I have collected tons of hardware for everything from automotive to wood working to leather piled up all over. On top of that my wife used to buy "HUGE LOTS" to resell from ebay didn't matter what lol. Need a few thousand little white buttons for shirts? My strategy is to buy anything i run across that may someday work out for something LOL I figure it'll give the kids something to do when I'm gone.

Carol - looking for a leatherworker in Iowa
chuck123wapati replied to Carol456's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
yes they can be sewn by hand or machine. It would take an industrial type machine but just a few tools by hand anyone can learn to saddle stitch. if there is a tandy store near you they may even teach you. -

a leather or even a brushed bronze plaque like the corner pieces would look good also, if no one can help you here maybe a local trophy maker could engrave a plate for you. -
that is absolutely the coolest cartridge case pen i have ever seen!

you can use mild steel if you want to i have some made out of plain old nails but beware they can stain your leather black I usually test mine out on a piece of scrap before using them on my project., vinegaroon is made from iron and vinegar it is a traditional black leather dye sooo... don't ask me how i know but don't file down your iron tools near your leather work stuff or you will have nice lil black speckles all over your leather magically appear when it gets wet.

3m used to make a weather-strip adhesive for autos that was yellow. I used to on a lined holster about 30 year ago and its still stuck tight. this is either it or its waterbased grandchild lol. https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b40069421/

contrasting thread does look nice but it shows up any irregularities in the edge. Once you get a good method going on forming you should be good to go with any thread combo. I saw in the video posted the people used solid forms and then ran a bone folder along the stitching on both sides. Also an uneven glue line inside will screw up your edges
