  1. it doesn't necessarily mean its ruined because it was sharpened by machine, almost all knives are done by machine when made. I sharpen mine out to 1000 grit on a machine. If it was done wrong however and heated beyond about 400 degrees then it could have lost its temper but you would see discoloration in the metal of any number of colors. Is it uniformly sharp ? And does it hold an edge? Usually if a person over heats a blade they burn off the very tip as its the thinnest and most delicate. Are the tips on your knife still nice and sharp? Last thing you can easily just hand sharpen it your own way if it hasn't lost its temper.
  2. lol you've been doing this for two months and asked for advise .... ok good luck sorry i wasted your time.
  3. mine were cheapo amazon, I replaced them with Tandy craft tool pro series and haven't had one bend yet and use them just the same. The cheapos work ok and they do the job plus they are just as easy to straighten as they are to bend lol.
  4. you need an awl before you need chisels or at the least at the same time. i tried some similar to these, they bend really easily.
  5. beautiful work, I'm thinking matching pocket book next.
  6. those are awesome my friend tell me your technique! Are they burned in or stamped?
  7. go get a round diamond stone like this then use a butchers steel to finish it. https://www.amazon.com/EZE-LAP-4-Inch-Diamond-Sharpener-Handle/dp/B000UVNT8Y/ref=asc_df_B000UVNT8Y?tag=bngsmtphsnus-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80333185695376&hvnetw=s&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583932713608980&psc=1
  8. Did you ever read about Edward Bernays? and the "torches of freedom"?
  9. Sometimes they don't care about either, sometimes they care to much about one or the other obviously in this case from the comments not many are willing to pay for his website and advertising at 115 bucks for a strap and buckle so there is a curve which is the point i'm making people will pay for it to a limit. So my maybe my question should be how much overhead are people willing to pay for a product or be expected to pay? How much should they be expected to pay for your inability to set up your web site your self all of it , part of it? You see we are all consumers personally I don't care what your advertising costs, as you pointed out, that's your problem and I'm not going to pay an exorbitant amount for it. For example I don't and wont buy NIKE tennis shoes, why because they are over priced simple and to the point I am not going to buy their brand just because they have cool commercials on tv. Now they are a BRAND name highly regarded and successful so how much do you think I'm willing to pay unknown Joe Blow for his website and advertising? On the other hand a lot of people do buy from them so are they wrong for being so high priced? is Joe Blow wrong for doing the same thing? Simply put the bottom line is i can buy them at their price or choose not to no matter the reasoning behind any of it. Now get this the web has thrown us another curve in the quandary, your product can be hated and boycotted instantly due to your political or personal views of life. No other reason, quality doesn't matter, cost doesn't matter, truth doesn't matter any more. What matters is the buzz word you use or the pronoun you use.

  11. the only info i could come up with on boot volume is an article explaining it for ski boots. Some type of calculations according to your foot length width and height. it does say its not a standard so there are variations in how they are interpreted. It also says it makes for a very tight boot. Over all my experience is saying it is probably a program built to do what experienced boot makers can do without a computer program. As soon as you mentioned "bespoke" my hackles were raised as to the amount of experience this company has in actual boot making compared to modern advertising gimmicks. I would send them back I've seen handmade custom boots made correctly by experienced boot makers, they fit perfectly as Fred has stated.
  12. I believe i know of whom you speak. He has a good hustle, it s an honest hustle and he does it well. He doesn't really sell the wallets so much as he sells a perceived "minimalist" way of life. But he makes that clear and his wallets are exactly what he says they are.
  13. does the consumer care how much the advertising costs or if the maker can or cant do it themselves? should they be expected to pay more for a belt because a person chooses to have a higher overhead, due to that makers perceived needs of better advertising than the next guy?
  14. lol you would be surprised, every morning i go to Walmart the lot is about half full of $300,000.00 motor homes, they camp there for free, use the shitters in the morning so they don't stink up their rides then buy their food and drive on to the next one. Some rich folks are just as cheap as the rest of us.
  15. it couldn't have taken over 15 minutes to make that plain 115 dollar belt shown on the site, with almost no technical leather knowledge or experience. pre dyed pre cut strap and a clicker press.

these are really cool there are many things you could use them for
  17. lol yea they do but now the new way is to look at reviews which could or couldn't be accurate as we have all seen, or you can google any dozens of best whatever for 2023 sites written and driven by college types who do nothing but create blogs for products to attach links that pay their wages for working at home(sitting on their asses). Most are copy and pasted blurbs from the products own sites while the writer has absolutely no real life experience of the product. And you can do this for hours or until you puke without actually learning a damn thing about the product, finally giving up and just buying something usually because the shipping is free. I feel the internet has been taken over by mega conglomerates that drive most searches right back to their products.
  18. i Hope you can one of these days get out for the day at lest. Even a couple hours helps.
  19. Edc a new market or just a new buzz word or should i say buzz acronym? Your work rocks my friend no matter what you call it.!!
  20. I do agree i feel they are over priced too i sell a strap belt for about 35 bucks with a simple roller buckle but..... We live in a world of buyer beware. do buyers have to be aware? Or is there someone who has to be aware for the buyer? People stand in line in our store to buy water from a machine that is tied to the very same water source as the house they live in! the only difference is a filter they could buy for 20 bucks, but instead they buy 5 gallon plastic bottles, waste gasoline and wait in line. The store knows its the same water only filtered. The store also sells filters. profit margin and profit? Sell a few things at a high margin to get to your desired profit margin or sell a shit ton of cheap things at a lower profit to realize the same profit. Both are acceptable methods of making money in any business class in the world. Another viable and well used business concept, figure your overhead and tack on the profit you would like to see then add say 20% more. If you sell like hot cakes raise your prices until sales fall off if you don't, lower your prices until sales pick up, quality has nothing to do with it. There are business classes in college but there are no consumer classes in college. Why? because businesses fund colleges, consumers fund businesses. In answer to your question friend. Forget what everyone else charges it makes no difference to the world, charge what you want to, the consumer will decide if they want to pay you that's how business is taught and that's how business works.
  21. very cool indeed !!! the ones we find in Wyoming are made from stone lol.
  22. I haven't read all three pages of comments but has anyone suggested knife rolls, many knife collectors use them. and they could be made easier and cheaper than individual sheathes. Personally i have met folks with requests like this and they don't usually pay off. They simply want something really good for nothing. Charge what you feel is appropriate and realize that other people will pay what you want for your goods if you really want to do it as a job type craft. If you do want to buy a machine then you can by selling your work to folks willing to pay your prices not by people who want your stuff cheaper than you can make it, that's just the reality of the situation.
  23. Took the old three speed for a spin today and two years after rescuing it. beautiful day in town the lilacs are blooming as well as all the other apple trees and flowers. All you smell are the lilacs above everything else. Life is good today!!!
