  1. I've used both Resolene mixed with 50% tap water but have now started to use Atom Wax. I think I like it better. Please note, I am far (very, very far...) from being an expert and the stuff I make is mostly "art - haha" so I don't have much in the way of anything being 'field tested' besides a few personal items.
  2. It's always sad to hear of such passing of members of this tight community. May God bless his family... and the Philadelphia Eagles!
  3. Hi there. I see you as a new member. Welcome to the forum! LOL! I have my easy chair that will be replaced soon (hopefully as a fathers day gift). I was thinking about how I could strip off some nice pieces of leather to make linings and such. I am not the best person to tell you about any cleaning methods but whatever you try, take a small sample piece to check out before you commit! That said, I've ran across several threads of some super knowledgeable folks who will probably chime in. cheers! EDIT: did a quick search using "cleaning methods" (quotes included) and saw lots of good information you can use!
  4. Well done! I think you've earned some 'love credits' for sure!
  5. That is a creative looking logo. The colors makes the whole thing pop!
  6. While researching sewing machines, I've come to learn this to be so true. And I thank you so much for your advice. I think I need to focus on just a couple machines that I need to look for because it is getting confusing on brand and versions. It's making my tiny brain hurt!

Boy, I am interested but if the head alone is 90 lbs, I bet the shipping to Houston would be too big of a hassle. However, if no takers and if you're willing, please reply.
  8. oh, I thought I had to go to an industrial sewing machine repair shop to find something like this! I'll have to check into this. Thanks!
  9. @Hasbeencowboy I noticed it was really similar to the boss and I appreciate your feedback. 82 and still rockin'? I hope to have that ability when I get to retire in a few years! @CastleLeatherWorks I'm glad you chimed in, as well. This is my first sewing machine and I am cautious as to what would make the most sense. My projects are the usual newbie smaller stuff. Mostly key chains, wallets, coasters, dog collars, and (and lots of 'art' work - haha) But with a sewing machine I wanted to do something like journal covers and belts, things that have long stitch lines that makes hand sewing less enjoyable. I've seen lots of models that are in the $2k range like the Cobra Class 26 but the wife would kill me if I bought something like that! I do know that I should get something more industrial than a regular sewing machine and I've managed to save some money. I know that quality and durability cost money. Do you have any recommendations for the about $1k range? Or do you believe it would be better if I waited and saved up for something more expensive? Your thoughts (and any one else's ) is appreciated! ~JL
  10. Wished I had that bit of wisdom. As it turns out I, too, have invested in higher quality tools (Barry King mostly -- assuming they're top quality) and the results are much better.

    Wichita Falls leather show

Hi, I was curious if there are plans for the Wichita Falls leather show this year. I would like to go as my first show.
  12. ABC3 said you could call : 678/520-2695
  13. Hi, I saw this in my email yesterday. I am interested in a sewing machine, not necessarily this one, but a starter machine. I like the idea of it being manual (more because of cost) but thought the lever pulling kind would be tiresome vs a wheel/crank version. I know from this forum there are different opinions about Tandy products but because this was intriguing, I wanted the opinion of more experienced and informed members of the group. https://tandyleather.com/products/cowboy-outlaw-machine-with-platform Thanks in advance. ~JL
  14. Dig the holster....but you got alot of leaves to rake up!!!
  15. It looks like a kind of like a torture device....like what they did with the movie "the man in the iron mask" but in this case it's the man in the leather mask... ~JL

Any tombstone engravers in your area?
  18. I don't know anything about horse tacks and such but I think it looks very nice. Maybe the three rows of stitches may be a bit odd, but what do i know? I love this site! ~JL
  19. Its hard to beat that price and I think you'd have to weigh what and how often you're going to use that tool. I'm a simple hobbyist and I've been interested in finding something myself so thank you @mike02130 for placing those tutorials. In fact, I've downloaded a couple of others!
  20. Liked the video, though. Just wished he would talk through what he was working on. But yep, BK crowner. Super nice to have but can easily be done with a small(er) beveler. That's what I did before I 'upgraded'.
  21. I think the football stitches adds a nice touch. A great conversation piece!
  22. are those individual card pockets? meaning do those cards have a home? I was thinking how they would all slide around if the wallet got banged up. Just my .02 worth.
  23. Nice, .... the collar, too!
  24. I think the other hole adds character.... kind of like explaining to my wife how my money for buying leather goods is burning a hole in my (billfold) wallet. :D
