  1. Hey there! and welcome! I live in Pearland. We're probably close neighbors. But as they say around here, Houston is just an hour away from Houston!
  2. Howdy from Texas. The thing about dogs is they're great about telling you how great you are and the stuff you make for them. They'll never complain and are ready to show things off.
  3. Howdy from Texas!
  4. Yea, I've found building out something you make yourself is always more satisfying. And like Retswerb said, it will last you longer than something off the shelf.
  5. I've kept my projects no matter how crappy. (yea, the box is getting full... ) I just have to remember to put the month/year on it so I can go back and reflect on my progress. LOL, I still have my first coaster from the Tandy project kit. It makes me cringe but reminds me how much I've improved so I won't get so hard on my self when I do flub up.
  6. Never mind. I saw your other post.
  7. Geez... what accident was that?
  8. Ahhh...I see. Yea...that's a beauty. Can't believe there isn't a dealer in the Houston area not that I can afford one right away, anyway. Thanks for the follow up, though.
  9. LOL, i was going to ask you what a 441 clone was but figured it was already answered in the forum and sure enough. Totally love this community!
  10. Reading this thread here on this form, I'm guessing it isn't really a beginners machine and understandably, a 'you get what you pay for' price tag. Back to the search!
  11. Boy, I am interested in knowing this machine, too!
  12. You did all that stitching by hand? And here I am complaining about my stitch work on simple and much smaller projects! Man, that's something I would be proud of, let alone the magnitude of such a project! Great job!
  13. Yea, that's nice. I need to learn to make a padded version for my puppers.... The simple non padded one I made a couple of years ago from my beginners Tandy kit is looking a bit worn.
  14. I've used both Resolene mixed with 50% tap water but have now started to use Atom Wax. I think I like it better. Please note, I am far (very, very far...) from being an expert and the stuff I make is mostly "art - haha" so I don't have much in the way of anything being 'field tested' besides a few personal items.
  15. It's always sad to hear of such passing of members of this tight community. May God bless his family... and the Philadelphia Eagles!
  16. Hi there. I see you as a new member. Welcome to the forum! LOL! I have my easy chair that will be replaced soon (hopefully as a fathers day gift). I was thinking about how I could strip off some nice pieces of leather to make linings and such. I am not the best person to tell you about any cleaning methods but whatever you try, take a small sample piece to check out before you commit! That said, I've ran across several threads of some super knowledgeable folks who will probably chime in. cheers! EDIT: did a quick search using "cleaning methods" (quotes included) and saw lots of good information you can use!
  17. Well done! I think you've earned some 'love credits' for sure!
  18. That is a creative looking logo. The colors makes the whole thing pop!
  19. While researching sewing machines, I've come to learn this to be so true. And I thank you so much for your advice. I think I need to focus on just a couple machines that I need to look for because it is getting confusing on brand and versions. It's making my tiny brain hurt!

Boy, I am interested but if the head alone is 90 lbs, I bet the shipping to Houston would be too big of a hassle. However, if no takers and if you're willing, please reply.
  21. oh, I thought I had to go to an industrial sewing machine repair shop to find something like this! I'll have to check into this. Thanks!
  22. @Hasbeencowboy I noticed it was really similar to the boss and I appreciate your feedback. 82 and still rockin'? I hope to have that ability when I get to retire in a few years! @CastleLeatherWorks I'm glad you chimed in, as well. This is my first sewing machine and I am cautious as to what would make the most sense. My projects are the usual newbie smaller stuff. Mostly key chains, wallets, coasters, dog collars, and (and lots of 'art' work - haha) But with a sewing machine I wanted to do something like journal covers and belts, things that have long stitch lines that makes hand sewing less enjoyable. I've seen lots of models that are in the $2k range like the Cobra Class 26 but the wife would kill me if I bought something like that! I do know that I should get something more industrial than a regular sewing machine and I've managed to save some money. I know that quality and durability cost money. Do you have any recommendations for the about $1k range? Or do you believe it would be better if I waited and saved up for something more expensive? Your thoughts (and any one else's ) is appreciated! ~JL
