  1. Now that is a cool idea.
  2. For small light weight leather I use contact glue (rubber cement) to a larger sized cardboard. I can then use my bench weight on the larger cardboard to hold down my project while I pound on it. Makes it easier to swivel around to get at different angles. Other than that I use blue painters tape. Works fine. edited for clarity
  3. My leatherwork adventure is still in its beginning stages. I hope to improve my work and production when I buy a sewing machine in the fall. (hopefully) Looks like you're guy is waiting for you so you can go play. That picture was my favorite doggy, Bear. He was a stray when I rescued him off the street (full of heart worms) and I had him for 7 wonderful years. He crossed the rainbow bridge in 2016. Still hurts thinking of him. My current guy is 4 and is almost identical, color and all. He's waaaay more hyper (and aggressive/protective) but still acts like a puppy in the house. The German Shepherd is my favorite breed and they've all been my best friends.
  4. It's amazing how a post from over 14 years ago is as relevant today as it was back then. I printed out those instructions so a big thank you, @Johanna for keeping this as a pin and for making this forum a success!
  5. I have about a 1' x 2' piece of granite I got for free as a castoff from a local counter top maker. I've not done this for coasters but have used it press down glued projects by placing it under the slab with another piece of scrap leather on top of my project so as not to mar my project. Worked fine.
  6. Great work! Really nice staged photos. You should have no trouble selling these!
  7. It must be the 'personalized wooden stick' that costs so much...
  8. I live in South Houston and would be interested in something, as well. I know there is a show in Waco this Fall but would really like to go to a one or two day event just for the tutorials/workshops. Sure, it would be nice to have some vendors at the show. However, I would want to go without the vendors just to learn how to elevate my skills and meet leather crafters that are local-ish with the same passion.
  9. Coming from a university with Orange as it's main color, man, that just screams luxury!!
  10. Thought I'd join in by saying there is some sort of market here..... Who knew?
  11. LOL, I think many of us have belts that no longer are able to do their job are hanging in the closet!
  12. Heart of Texas Leather Show is in Waco in August 6 - 8 with lots of workshops the week before: https://leathercraftersjournal.com/heart-of-texas/
  13. You can try exporting the file to a different application. I'm going to check out nanocad which is a free program which may could solve your problem.

    Alcohol Lamp

Hi, What are the differences/advantages if I use alcohol burner v gas burner on the stove?
  15. Wow, easier than I thought! thanks @chuck123wapati
  16. Excellent idea, excellent points. Thank you!
  17. yea, nice site, great photos. Hope you get a ton of business!
  18. Hey @chuck123wapati now that is some really good work and a fun project. I, too, need to start investigating an airbrush system. But I have the same problem with the clean up. Momma definitely won't be happy about me using a bathroom sink for cleanups.
  19. Very impressive for a first time. And when you start to use your BK tools, you'll understand why they're top notch.
  20. @BWL whats the last picture of?
  21. There is a facebook site somewhere that Jim Linnell started (I think) that is for leather trading cards. I believe this is it. Not a fb fan and I'm at work (shhhhhhh...) so I didn't want to run down rabbit holes to check it out but here you go. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1177302999307221/
  22. yea, really nice color combo match up. And very nice work.
  23. wow, those should make anyone proud to carry. Just beautiful!
  24. Ha! Leaving the room to change your mind. That's funny and how true! But boy what a beautiful set up. My "shop" is a kitchen table I kind of took over and completely outgrown. I have a 12x12 shed in the back for lawn stuff I've thought converting but that's as far as I've gotten.
  25. Ha! never would've thought to have done this. What a fun idea. My dog likes to snap at/eat our sky raisins.
