beautiful work , give's the gun a little something extra

Had to try these. Had a hard time figuring out how to get the weight in. I put a 6" by 1" piece of spring steel in the handle section, then sewed up both sides to the curved part. I then soaked the top and stretched out the leather using various item's to get a pocket. Then I used BB's as the medium , carefully filling and clamping the edges as I filled it up. Let it dry really good and then finished sewing it up.

I don't think you can really over wet. I like my leather soaked but not mushy so like Dwight says 10 second is good I like 15 to get it really soaked thru molds easy. yes takes a while to dry but not to bad here in the desert sun temps in the 100's

Well I'm gonna repeat myself give the rubber fingers a try, their cheap and they WORK! they grip needles like pliers . I tried pliers way back and hated them. Broke needles using them .You can find them at staples or online .sewing stores .

thanks I had a post wondering how to glue a magnet to leather
-
looks good how is the magnet attached ?

The case's are wet molded and should hold there shape even when empty

throw them in the washing machine No seriously I don't see how, any attempt to wash the stitch line would risk getting more dye on them I would think.

what kind of leather is that and what weight?

Dyeing to know what I'm doing wrong
Bert03241 replied to MtlBiker's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
If I had to pay high shipping prices for dye I'd be making my own dyes. I've used wood stain on leather works great , shoe polish works , I mean who says you have to use a particular leather dye. I've used coffee grounds. I'm sure you can find cheap local alternatives to color leather.Food coloring and vinegar are inexpensive and easy to clean up, and food coloring won't stain your skin as badly as other dyes and it will set into leather just as well as professional dye. -

Howdo you tell if it chrome tanned or oil tanned
Bert03241 replied to Bert03241's topic in All About Leather
yes i have some of each but don't know which is what LOL and I dont want to use the oil tan also SLC doesn't list chrome all they list is Oil tan which is weird because some of you are saying theres no such thing as oil tan -
I think that would make it very difficult to sew

tape a 1/8 dowel to the top of the gun to make a path for the front sight to follow in and out. also I like to cut front a little bigger so when glued and sewd the holster has a slight curve to it and hugs the body better, and use a grover on your stitch lines to set the three in a little bit. heres a great video to show you how
