  1. Here is some of that Rocky Mountain Poly-Braid. It is .55mm diameter or they say its similar to 532 linen. I think it is in that 207 maybe 277 thread size.
  2. Yeah I was going to buy the fancy brass weights, Till I seen they cost $50-$80each. These are doing just fine. I should cut them in half to make 4 weights of 1.8lbs each.
  3. No Bob that is my Wuta alcohol spirit lamp in the upper left hand corner. Here is a better pic of it. Now here are my leather weights! Caterpillar piston wrist pins. 3.8lbs each. Covered with some 8-9oz veg-tan.
  4. Will just put this sucker here!!!
  5. I have yet to try Ritza Tiger thread. But I have some similar flat style threads & I cant seem to get the same consistency with flat thread as a round thread. Now I recently started using some rocky mountain braided poly thread & I really like this stuff. Wax is about perfect, tightly braided, lots of colors, UV protected. Might be a bit pricey at $9.00/roll if bought in bulk.
  6. I may be totally wrong, so keep that in mind. But to me it looks like you are scratching your leather with 1 side of the beveler leg. To me it looks like you need to roll/lean your edge beveler away from the leather. Towards the outer edge. Also to me them bevels show classic signs of a dull beveler. Like I said I may be totally wrong & off my rocker. Hope I helped in some constructive way.
  7. Might look into some of this leather. Its soft & a 3oz calfskin leather from italy. I would think some leather like this would be ideal. This is the pebble finished stuff, but they make it in a smooth calfskin as well
  8. I'm thinking the sawtooth bevels are from a dull edge beveler. Another trick to sharpen a edge beveler is: Lay a harness needle on the table & cover the needle with a piece of sand paper of fine grit. Then pull your edge beveler over the top of the harness needle & sand paper. Then you can flip your sand paper & add green rouge to the sand paper & pull your beveler back over it, till its polished.
  9. Looks great! Love the colors.
  10. Yeah I bought them things too. Lol I cant think of the name of them. I thought i would use the heck out of them, ha! Used them once. I dont think they are that handy. I could see them maybe good for bag making when gluing up a bag or something.
  11. Looks great! Nice work. Really like the dye on the trapper pancake sheath.
  12. Thanks. That looks sharp. So I want to make sure I'm thinking right. I just use plain old white printer paper. Also let me ask? 1858 Remington or 1860 Walker? Thanks.
  13. Thanks for the tip. I'll try that.
  14. @DavidK did you resolve the splotchy dye problem you ran into. Tell us how things went. Thanks.
  15. Another thought, if they just want a black to brown fade or halo effect, you possibly could airbrush the bracelet/cuff with black dye. But I would be worried about the cream colored lining.
  16. I'm thinking if they can afford 18k gold adornments, then it would be best to just buy some black stingray & make a new bracelet. A re-dye or color change is going to be tricky with that cream white lining that bracelet/cuff has.
  17. Thanks. Lmao it only took me a month. I like the skidmores conditioning cream, it darkens the leather a bit at application, but the color always seems to lighten back to the original color after a day of sitting. Plus it smells great.
  18. Put the finishing touches on it. Rubbed in some Skidmores conditioning cream & buffed it out with a horse hair brush. It's got some more color depth & sheen now.
  19. Yeah toxo I should have been more informative on my terms. I should have mentioned that 2 of them are french skivers or wide mouth skiver. Thanks I appreciate the tips.
  20. Guys & gals I finally got it done. After having to re-line it. Dang glue incompatibility or old spray adhesive, had to peel it off & then skive the rest off. But I saved it! Here it is. Sewn together with .55mm poly-braid rust red thread. Had my new electric creaser a bit hot. But it will be ok. Well how bad did I mess up? Also like to add I sewed this 1 all the way around. Thanks.
  21. Thanks. I've seen that french head style knife before & I do like the style of it. I think you can still buy that knife new. But I bet it isn't as good as a old one.
  22. Yeah they say once you find the head knife you like & learn the techniques of using the knife. You will never go back to using any other type of knife. I think I'll get a half head knife or a real small head knife & learn it 1st.
  23. Yeah they are great edge bevelers. I got them for the thin italian leather I've been making wallets out of. I bought the french bevelers/wide mouth bevelers cause I was there buying tools & i thought why not. I'm going to order the rest of the edge bevelers for the set i want to complete. They are nice. Lol I've been too scared to run a head knife yet. Lol i be mad if i messed up my leather, not including my hands. Thanks.
  24. Should keep your face warm & Vampires off your neck. Looks good.
  25. Welcome to the group. Bunch of great people here.
