Colored Thread Retailer For Colors Besides Black-White-Brown
J Hayes replied to Tallbald's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Mainethread.com for hand stitching, small spools. I tried to link to it but....I've used superior threads for some 277 bonded nylon in pink and have been happy with it. -
Food dehydrator. Excalibur is what I use. Look in the holsters section and there are a few threads on force drying and what people use to get it done.

Nice. Add a fence to keep the edge spacing consistent and you could also add a "spacing" finger for distance between holes. Well done

Welcome. I haven't had any negative affects as of yet, I don't foresee any either, its hot but not that hot, I do imagine that over time the stamp may become slightly annealed though. I imagine it has a life span just like everything else. As for the spirit lamp, only one way to find out :-)

I have one from him and use a heat gun to get mine to the point where is almost to hot to handle then press it using my arbor press, great results on chrome tan pull up. I have seen YouTube video of someone doing the same and using an infrared thermometer to get a consistent temp. Flame heating may result in soot being deposited on the stamp. YMMV heat and press time will affect the results Jeremy

+1 for dip dyeing. I got a big 8 quart sald bowl with a good seal and just leave the dye in it. I would advise to dip in a location that doesn't matter when you tip the bucket over and splash dye everywhere, ask me how I know :-) +1 for the power burnisher as well, I made my own but it works like a champ

Excellent work. I really like that packer boot

I saw Nigel in a video work around a large stump, 30 inches tall maybe, anyway he had tools around the circumference held by a leather strap leaving the top unobstructed. Just a thought

Glad to hear you got it going. Have you tried your 138 with your 22 size needle? A #25 on 138 seems really big, I run #277 thread with a #25 needle on my big machine and on my smaller one I run #138 thread with a #22 needle and both run flawlessly. I believe that I've read that too big of needle can also cause skipped stitches due to the hole being so large causing the loop to not form correctly because of the lack of resistance on the thread as the needle ascends. Also to big of a hole and it can be difficult to balance the knot, plus it looks a bit goofy to me. Just my .02

Things I've Learned From Leather Working
J Hayes replied to CTaylorJr's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Always dip dye in the garage or any place the floor and surrounding do not matter because a quart of black Fiebing's pro oil dye sucks to clean up....... -
http://www.sewone.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SSTH%2D8BLD%2DPS I've bought supplies from him and a buddy has him do all his maintenance. I'm pretty sure he would let you sew on one. Only an hour or 2 from Milwaukee. Also contact the sponsor dealers, they all ship and its more reasonable than you'd think.

I don't wet the folder. I eyeball the stitch lines and mark them with a pencil then staple the pattern together to test fit, DO remember the leather is much thicker than the paper and you need to leave extra room for the thickness of the leather. Search and there are some good tutorials on pattern making.

I make all of my own holster patterns from manila file folder and I use a stapler to mimic stitch lines. Get after it and have some fun, it will be much more rewarding if you've made your own pattern. Those should be fairly easy to make, look at magazine carriers for inspiration.

Mighty fine bag, my fingers hurt looking at all those seams and binding -

http://us.cricut.com/home/ I wonder if this would work on your thin leather, the cutting mats are adhesive. My wife has one but no way am I experimenting with hers!

Look closer at the rex, it may be a compound feed walking foot machine possibly with reverse but im not sure. See if a mod can relocate this to "leather sewing machines" area, you will probably get a better response. At any rate the compound feed/triple feed is what you're after. A really popular upholstery machine is the Consew 205RB, large bobbin machine with reverse. Some of the Singer flatbed machines would be 111w155 or 111w156 and the 211w155 * note * I believe these would be suitable but I am NOT an expert.

Hehehe, that stuff makes great patterns IMO. Folding on the center line is a great tip, thanks!

Nicely done! I noticed the 3 lines on the pattern, looks alot like my patterns, is that a manila file folder by any chance? :-)
