  1. Looks great! Can't see anything I would critique! Gary
  2. Good point Paul - I like your method! Gary
  3. That’s a powerful airless sprayer - I think it would be difficult to control the output when spraying small amounts of dye - overkill and looks like it would not be able to spray unless you have a large container of dye.
  4. I also use the cheap Harbor Freight airbrushes - I like the one that uses the plastic bottles - easy to switch bottles and airbrush stays clean. Sprays dyes and Resolene and costs less than $10. Small oil-less compressor was about $80.
  5. Glue the flesh sides together so the smooth grain sides are facing out. Weldwood cement works great. After you glue and trim, sand and burnish the edges, and scribe lines to follow for your stitching. There is a lot of information here and on YouTube that will go into more detail on making belts.
  6. Mutt, you would be amazed how much less dye you use when you airbrush it. Granted, the dye doesn’t penetrate as deep as when you dip it or apply heavily with a sponge or dauber, but I find it perfectly acceptable for most of m6 projects. Airbrushing dye is very forgiving - hard to mess anything up! Gary
  7. Welcome Tom! No problem at all to glue and sew two pieces of leather to make your belt. Cut two blanks and make one wider by about 1/8” on each edge to make it easier to glue them together without worrying about lining them up perfectly. After the glue dries, trim the edges flush and then dye, finish and sew. Gary
  8. That is a really nice set - I am going to look into whether this is still available. Thanks!
  9. I only airbrush it -have used paintbrush and foam brushes to apply, but get much better results with spraying it. I suspect a roller might create a lot of bubbles? Gary
  10. Panku82 - sorry to hear about your project - we all have a pile of discards and that's how we learn! I like your idea of using graphite paper - I just ordered some to try! Gary
  11. Looks like it could be upholstery or garment leather, although kind of thick for garment leather. Gary
  12. Dyeing leather normally causes it to dry out. You will need to apply neats foot oil on the grain side and that should make it a bit more pliable. Then buff the heck out of it so the black dye doesn’t rub off. Then finish as usual.
  13. I have two Dillon 550s, a Bonanza CoAx and a few single stage loaders for metallic cartridges. Only use the CoAx for loading 45-70 & 45-90 and a couple of oddball cartridges that are very low volume. If you load in volume there is no substitute for a Dillon. Gary
  14. LOL! Thanks for the offer, but it gets quite a bit of use still. It's one of those things that I built into the house and if I ever move it will stay with the house! Gary
  15. Thanks Ferg - what size were the bottles? I think I paid @$37 for a 1 qt bottle from Campbell Randall. Gary
  16. Ferg, where did you get the sample kit? I spoke with the company in Italy and they pointed me to Campbell Randall, where I bought some black edge paint, but they didn’t have much inventory at the time. Gary
  17. Looks good Jeff! You might want to take a small paintbrush and apply some light dye to the groove where your stitch line wandered a bit - might make it invisible. Most folks probably wouldn't notice anyway, but I am like you - I like everything to be as good as I can make it! Gary
  18. 67 here - feeling younger in my mind, but body sometimes feels older! I feel blessed every day when I wake up and realize it will be another good day! Gary
  19. Congratulations! Look forward to hearing your feedback on your new machine! Gary
  20. Welcome K Bird! Definitely sew it - eventually the glue joint will fail from stress of putting a handgun in and out. The glue holds the pieces together while you stitch them together. Gary
  21. That is some beautiful wood and workmanship!
  22. I will plead guilty to also doing the same thing - I try to remember to triple check everything now, but the older I get the more distracted I seem to be... Gary
  23. So glad you figured out an easy resolution! Look forward to seeing the finished bag. Gary
  24. I would not use wd40 on leather. In my opinion, the best way to fix the glue issue is just put a thin piece of lining leather inside (or a fabric liner) Gary
