  1. What are you even talking about? That looks great. I would wear it if it wasn't wrong handed.
  2. None, just wet the edge, then apply the trag. Wait about 5 minutes or so, then burnish.
  3. Any help would be appreciated. This is priced right, but I have no info on it yet. Is this a compound walking foot?
  4. The one on the left looks more like a belt clip was used.
  5. I haven't used any of the water based stuff.
  6. Welcome to the forum, guys. I'm what I would consider a field carpenter. I was never exposed to a shop environment. I can do just about anything in a remodeling project though. I must be good at it though, I'm a 100 pounds over weight after 23 years in the trades (never been hungry). One thing you will find out really quick is leather just doesn't cut like wood. You will find it frustratingly difficult to square things up. It's a nightmare. Sharp, sharp tools help a lot. Leather loves to stretch and distort at the end of a cut. The olfa style rotary cutters help with that a bit. Or a really sharp round knife that you can roll towards the end of the cut instead of pushing straight thru to the end. I just had fits in the beginning. Anywho, enough rambling. Good luck and have fun.
  7. There is a guy on here that does some wicked holsters with wood stain. I have seen his posts, but don't remember his handle.
  8. I have different reasons for my choice, but I avoid ups when I can.
  9. Good looking set up. I like the scallops.
  10. Why does this stuff never happen close to me?
  11. Update: It wasn't fun but I was able to split it. This was only 4ounce horse strip and I was able to split it to 2 ounces. I took the long 4" ish strap I cut for my wallets and worked it upside down. This put all the stress onto the flesh side of the piece. Now I have a strip about 24" to use for some wallets. Yay!
  12. Really great work.
  13. Great looking straps. Welcome to the most frustrating rewarding hobby known to man.
  14. Hide house, Maverick, Wicket & Craig, Weaver, almost anyone will have better leather, pricing, and service than Tandy. Tandy is geared towards newcomers. Don't ask me why, but that is their model. Just look at the banner ads on top of the page. Good Luck.

    Just a Porch

Hobby lobby or Michael's has small easels for next to nothing. Good looking porch.
  16. Thank you for educating my ignorance, once again. Be patient with me, I'll get there. Just for information purposes, I have no practical knowledge on a sewing machine. I have never used one and have only seen a real cylinder arm once. But, I have been reading plenty.
  17. Thanks Wiz. That was as always lots of information.
  18. After looking at some thread comparisons I have a new question.... After using some proper hand sewing thread at .6, .8, and 1.0mm I understand these are all larger than anything I could use on the consew. So, if 416 thread is only about .8mm thick and I like that size thread for my smaller projects, is there any reason I can't sew a wallet or journal on a 4500? Or even using 277 or 346? Is a wallet just too thin?
  19. I can't speak from experience, but I believe heat is the way to go. A press will imprint it but from what I have gleaned here, it won't last. I know some people put their logo on a piece of veg tan and attach it to the bag as part of a closure, strap system, or even just a simple square.
  20. Actually, I was thinking of you during that post. But you were too busy moving at the time.
  21. Thanks, I have been thinking of getting that series.
  22. I am posting because I would like any information on zippers at all. They are a mystery to me. Thanks.
  23. Yeah, these machines are mostly clones. The original machines were 3x more expensive 20 years ago. We should consider ourselves lucky. I'm not sure about the 227r in particular though. Just general information I picked up around here. The only fabulous deals to be found are by scouring Craigslist and finding the one person that inherited grandpas junk and just wants it gone.
