  1. Thanks Bruce, glad I could play a small part in a real leathercrafter learning something new. And, it didn't cost a cent. Awesome.
  2. And this is all correct, and even more so for the particular steel they are using. But if the Weaver still is just a bit softer, just that extra bit may remove microscopic ridges that hold the edge true. But! I could be totally blowing smoke outta my own butt. I'm just kind of guessing what's going on. I don't really get technical in my knife sharpening. Some of my knives came so sharp, I just strip them regularly. Others I have been able to get sharp enough for leather, which is pretty sharp. But, but I never found myself past 1500-2000 grit, and green stropping compound. P.S. I either use sand paper or my Kalamazoo 1x 42 for sharpening. Never was much use with a stone.
  3. Hold on to those hides, the farther you go the more you will Branch out and find uses for them. Even if it is just for prototyping new designs.
  4. It's still pretty genius. He admitted it wasn't his idea, and maybe he has a little SMS, but he's not trying to sell it. That's wierd, I clicked on my link after reading your post and the link worked fine?
  5. I will be finding an unoccupied corner of my sewing table for this.
  6. Have you tried stropping after 1200? I have heard that most tools only hold a working edge at around 1000 grit. Any thing more is for show (or so "they" say). Of course that number came from different wood workers, but I figure it may apply here as well. The edge may be rolling over at 8000 grit. And I could be wrong, but it wouldn't hurt anything test it.
  7. Title says it all. This is a super simple leather edging machine for strap goods. Please slap foreheads in silence and enjoy.
  8. For the price I would look towards a cowboy 3200. It is a cylinder arm, but I think a flatbed with that much capacity is going to get expensive. I'm no expert by any means, but I know you can get either a flat bed attachment from cowboy or a more exact flat bed attachment from Uwe.
  9. This may be an ok or even good machine for what it is designed to sew. The up and coming problem I foresee?....... Tandy selling this to any newcomers with more scratch then knowledge about what they are buying. They will Shell out cash for a machine that probably won't suit their needs and wind up having to sell it for a big loss to fund the machine they need. Also, these folks probably can't roll it back into their local Tandy when they have a problem with it. I wonder if that gets disclosed up front? I haven't seen any comments about what pressure feet and such are available. I'm assuming they would be something from sailrite that comes with a hefty pricetag. And another thing, I watched the video from stock and barrel leather (maybe the name is wrong)? And this guy just couldn't say enough paid good things about this machine. Even went as far as saying it was looking like a better fit for his wallets and bags then his Juki. Really? I commented and unsubscribed to his channel. I'm all for getting paid, but come on. To tell the truth, I have no dog in this fight. But, I just see a lot of newcomers getting taken to the cleaners by Tandy on this one. And it puts an itch in my craw. Just my .02.
  10. I think it looks great.
  11. Sorry for your friend, but it sure was sweet of him to pass along the goodies. I'm no stamp expert, but some of those geometric ones look like they might be rare. Several I've never seen before.
  12. Looks like you have been having lots of fun. Welcome aboard.
  13. Wish I needed it buddy.
  14. It's the leather. You may try oxacilic (spelling?) acid to clean the next batch before dying, but I doubt it will help. This is just why good leather costs more.
  15. You could do a lot worse than this kit here. It has just about everything needed to get started. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F153332451784 Decent quality.
  16. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F153332451784 This is a really well thought out kit. It has just about everything to get started. Even comes with a poundo board and cutting mat. These aren't top of the line but are a good cut above stuff from Tandy. I don't have all these tools, but I do have the wing divider and hole punches. They are stellar. I have made several purchased from Wuta. They have always been great to deal with. Now it takes a minute for shipping to the us. So, in the meantime you can pick up a copy of Al Stohlman's Leather Tools and a copy of the The Art of Sewing. Both are super informative and fun to read. Good luck and welcome aboard.
  17. Threeseys!!!
  18. There are tables available on eBay for 126 shipped. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F401547543230 Easy peasy.
  19. Great looking stuff all around.
  20. It looks nice. I like your color choices.
  21. They look pretty easy to use. And being from cowboy the support will be there. I think (and I haven't had any experience with them) they are mostly used with firmer leathers.
  22. And that's how you do it. So, if you don't mind me asking, what did you wind up spending?
