  1. Ha, yeah the fella on page one or two (of this thread) working out of the duffel bag is in for a rude awakening.
  2. Yep, there's a lot of .357s out there, but Marlin never made the one they teased me with.
  3. Automotive paint and body stores actually sell an inline toilet paper filter cartridge here in the states. You probably won't find it at pep boys or O'Reilly's, but a real supply house. Also, 3m makes an M90 spray adhesive that is supposed to be better than the M77. I have cans of it left over from the cabinet refacing I used to do. But, as of yet, I haven't tried it on leather.
  4. Tandy has some aluminum rivets like the brass and copper ones. I'm still not sure of the name but these.....
  5. Yeah, he was just getting out of prison and bought a slew of tools with him. I met him on Craigslist to buy a heritage 8" splitter for 250.00. No reason to haggle at that price. Then he showed me all the other stuff he had. Saddler's tools, a gazillion stamps, boxes of books and patterns, just about everything under the sun. He asked me what I would give him for the rest of it. I told him it was worth a lot more than I had. I told him I had another 100 bucks. He said "sold". It was thousands of dollars worth of stuff. I gifted a lot of it here. I still have a lot left. I know I have about a hundred or so stamps. I gifted probably twice that. There were four or five letter sets. Just tons of stuff.
  6. This is true. I didn't know she had bought out shops before her last post. I have only had the chance to buy out an individual one time. And boy, what a deal. I think I paid maybe 3 cents on the dollar. Probably .02.
  7. Those are super cool. Way way better than the one I made.
  8. I would bet slicking it with tokonole after dying (and buffing really good) would probably be fine. Then some resolene.
  9. Wow, I have forgotten having a thing or two in my day, but I have never re-bought an item 8 times.
  10. When you run across that 3rd 6" cowboy hand crank splitter you didn't know you had, think of me. Lol. That is quite an undertaking. Keep up the good work. I'm sure you will get it all in place, eventually.
  11. "Hell, I don't know why anybody would ever wanna be a Navy diver". Sweet.
  12. I'm am just guessing, do you think maybe that spool of polyester got too hot somewhere between manufacturing and you?
  13. That's cool. I just never saw a moment in film or photo where somebody wasn't sweating. Then again, I live in Louisiana and had someone ask me how do we go anywhere? To which I replied, "what do you mean?" And he said, "well isn't it all swampland down there?" "We have roads!!!"
  14. Not having one of these machines, I'm curious as to what is lacking from the readily available flat tables? Any body care to fill me in? Thanks
  15. Thanks for sharing, good luck to ya.
  16. I just beveled the edge of the scrap leather I use to strop with. One end is 0 the other is 00. Works like a champ.
  17. A link helps if possible. Thanks.
  18. Yep, sharp tools go a long way with leather. I.really like this book for that portion of leather working. It also has some great tips on techniques using the tools. Like using the tools for more than their commonly known functions. It's great cheap investment.
  19. That looks like it will last forever. That is a big strong hunk of leather. If it does get too hot, I'm sure you could get away with cutting some different shaped holes in it. Good luck.
  20. Always be a little concerned about the bikermutt. #runswithscissors
