  1. Andy Stasiak once told our leather group: "The hobbyist harms three people when the hobbyist prices his leather craft items unrealistically low: (1) You harm the hobbyist seller who make little or no profit to continue his craft; (2) You harm the buyer who thinks he will be able to continue to purchase products, from the hobbyist, at low prices: and (3) You harm the professional leather worker because the unrealistic price has uneducated the buyer into expecting all professional leather workers price match the hobbyist."
  2. The height is about 14 inches, but I don't have calipers to measure the diameter. Perhaps you can contact Weaver for the measurement.
  3. I get my fish leather from https://www.sealeatherwear.com/, i'm sure they would be happy to answer your questions and they are a Canadian company.

  6. 1. Send a picture of what you want to leather sales companies in AU. Hear is a sampling of companies I found with google: https://www.leffler.com.au/ https://mail.google.com/mail/?view=cm&fs=1&tf=1&to=leffler@leffler.com.au https://www.ebay.com.au/str/australianleatherwholesalers https://www.dshorne.com.au/indent-leather-sales https://mail.google.com/mail/?view=cm&fs=1&tf=1&to=info@dshorne.com.au https://www.austanners.com.au/ https://mail.google.com/mail/?view=cm&fs=1&tf=1&to=sam@austanners.com.au 2. Place the Ipad/Macbook on the leather you buy and place the second piece on top of the Ipad and judge where the sewing might make a good fit. Tight enough to hold it, but not so tight to make it too hard to remove.
  7. Well, I'm not trying to be silly, but for $69 you can my what you want minus the A4 ring binder at: https://www.etsy.com/listing/740320934/personalized-leather-organizer-custom?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_ts1-a-books_movies_and_music-books-blank_books-journals_and_notebooks&utm_custom1=a3fa0a84-efac-462b-8e09-ebabb756f5cf&utm_content=go_2063076140_76452840935_367965823149_aud-459688891635:pla-314954651893_c__740320934&utm_custom2=2063076140&gclid=Cj0KCQjwzN71BRCOARIsAF8pjfioT7psNFIEHLJs2up64qIFO0xShGdfekwLoKgyPJtMhC--1zJxSNsaAumTEALw_wcB Otherwise I would suggest the Al Stohlman books: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004APDZBM/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i4 that show you all the steps and methods to make leather projects. Also, the Al Stohlman book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1892214911/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i2 is the hasic primer for hand sewing. And , the Al Stohlman book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1892214903/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i3 will explain all the tools you are asking about. Hope this helps, because to answer all your questions would take way too much time to explain.
  8. WOW! 7.5 hours of labor, just for the sewing. At minimum wage ($19 in liberal state/cities) would be $142.50. Not counting the doctors visits for tendon issues. I wouldn't wish that job on anyone. Good luck.
  9. Wished the hand holding the book was gloved.... Wonderful condition for its age.

  11. Thank you for the offer of Bonis fur sewing machines. I think, after viewing several videos and reading others comments, that I will start making small items and hand sew to get the assembly process and see if I really need a sewing machine. I know me and I get into new projects and wind up not pursuing them as I initially envisioned after spending too much money.
  12. Sorry for the question. I found some references by searching for "sewing fur". Without the search with both words together, I got too many unrelated entries. I'll look them over and see if there is the information I need in them. BTW, I need to change my signature, I'm back to "Former Editor, RawHide Gazette, 25 years of doing it was enough...
  13. I've acquired a Washington State Fur Trapping License and joined a local Fur Trapping group and now have access to local fur. My walking foot sewing machines (Ferdco 206 and Ferdco 1245) are not suitable to edge sew panels of fur together to form clothing or accessories. I've researched specialized chain stitch sewing machines for sewing and would like some comments or suggestions. There seems to be a very limited number of current manufactures and seem to be specialized to specific types of leather fur (coyote, raccoon, etc). Since I am new to this, I would appreciate and experience or places to find more practical sewing machine information.
  14. Go to PSLAC.ORG and go to one of their meetings. They are south of Seattle.

  17. I have to say that way one of the best "how to" articles I've ever read. Clear, informative and easily read. KUDOS
  18. Veg tanned stuff I make shrinks after wetting, tooling, coloring and finishing, but it sounds like you are using chrome tanned finished leather which should retain its size unless exposed to moisture (Maybe gluing the leather with acrylic, water based glue to the matte boards) Or exposure to high heat or bright lighting. That's my guess. Bob Stelmack
  19. I have the Weaver 4 -ton press and I use it for my 1-1/4" dies and also for my .918 inch letterpress type. Works fine got both. Bob Stelmack
  20. Hell, it's less than $15, what have do we have to loose?
  21. I went to my local "old/new hardware" shop where there nut, bolts, fittings, barrels, etc. See pictures of the shop: https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x549878d6916d69bf:0x95dacdfe91069a4f!2m22!2m2!1i80!2i80!3m1!2i20!16m16!1b1!2m2!1m1!1e1!2m2!1m1!1e3!2m2!1m1!1e5!2m2!1m1!1e4!2m2!1m1!1e6!3m1!7e115!4shttps://lh5.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipPlJO7mZ93YGG1h7jqEOpEiuHdkwnWOXaDyzpsU%3Dw213-h160-k-no!5sart+carpenter+kennewick+-+Google+Search&imagekey=!1e10!2sAF1QipPlJO7mZ93YGG1h7jqEOpEiuHdkwnWOXaDyzpsU&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjH7MTftPXfAhXKwVQKHd6PDhkQoiowCnoECAYQBg ...and purchased a roll of rubber conveyor belt. I used 3-foot wide, because my table was 3-foot wide. The belt is smooth rubber, about 3/8 inch thick and has bias ply construction like tires.
