  1. i was of that opinion too until i sat down to rest one day while hunting, a barrel plugged with dirt isn't safe as well and can go unnoticed. i either sew them shut now or add the plug unless other wise asked and also give fair warning of the danger of a plugged barrel if its left open. I put tape over my rifle barrels to keep the snow and ice out as well believe me I've shot a lot of tape off my gun with no bad results. I've also seen some who put a small hole in the toe as well, why I'm not sure.
  2. i hang my stuff up to dry, i sand and burnish until i like the edge, just like anything painted its the prep work before that is the key to a good finish paint doesn't fill cracks gaps or holes on leather either lol. Then i use the wooden end of a paintbrush to coat the edges, just dip it in the paint, i figure the makers have made it the right consistency , wipe the drip and slide it down the edge. But I'm sure as heck not as ocd about it as some I've seen.
  3. that countersunk knob is a good idea indeed.
  4. I especially like the red one Fred both are very nice indeed!
  5. its a matter of taking your time fitting the toe trimming it down until it fits nicely, I use a 45 degree cut ,approximately, on both the holster and toe then glue it in place after that it is pretty easy to sew. use as thick of leather as you can as well. i have never used a wooden piece inside the holster but it could help i imagine if all your holsters were the same size. i do use them on dice cups and such.
  6. Woodworking as a job or craft is not considered dangerous but some woodworkers are very dangerous.
  7. you can paint it up but the spots that are worn off now will be worn off again in about a month. Clean up and restore the important stuff and save your self some time and money.
  8. you have to resize your pictures to a smaller size. see at the bottom max total size is 1.46mb
  9. yea i dont think he would be stitching them they have to fit varying sizes. My guess is just a real tight loop. I round braided a hat band for myself and used a turks head tightly woven around both ends it doesn't slip a bit but can still be adjusted. Hat bands have very little movement or stress put on them so dont need much IMO.
  10. what type of paint? Are there plugs under it?

  14. I use the poly batting that you put in quilts, furniture and clothing they also use it as a layer over the foam padding in furniture and in medical equipment like knee braces and such. It wont break down like foam will.
  15. my cork came free with a good bottle of wine included.
  16. lol oh now i get it! Its one of mine i use a Canon rebel.
  17. Wyoming. it is both, its called the checkerboard here because the gubment gave the railroad every other section of land 20 miles on each side of the union pacific when it was first built in a checker board pattern. they have started back at rounding them up the last few years but its still an iffy subject dependent totally upon politics instead of logic. http://corrections.wyo.gov/home/wild-horse-program
  18. one thing i had to re-do when i built mine was make the jaws narrower so my fingers could grip the needles while stitching and i could use my awl without the handle hitting the vice. and you may have a problem with your thread snagging up on that tee handle. It is a good looking vice!
  19. its another thing you only know one side of sorry i wont debate it. I can drive ten miles and see the results. The management has been stopped and wildlife as well as wild horses are starving to death.
  20. they didn't have to be protected they had to be managed!
