  1. Nope! Some may have personal beliefs but it pretty much up to you how you want your work to look. The Tandy website has a ton of free ebooks covering most everything you need to know. It an awesome resource for the beginners and old timers alike https://www.leathercraftlibrary.com/category/79/ebooks?pagenum=1 Try the book "How to lace" among others .
  2. quilting leather ? sounds very interesting. welcome and please show some of your leather quilting.
  3. Finished the shoulder harness No dye except for bison tan an the small strap mildly stamped and burnished, used a bit of edge kote. Finished with fiebings golden mink oil
  4. My family wipes down every package we get with Clorox water and every thing we buy from the store as both of our stores have a pharmacy inside. Guess what sick people do when they are waiting for their prescription that's right they shop, pick up, cough and sneeze on your food in your store every day. You would be better off worrying about your local supermarket. My family of six hasn't been sick a day since we started doing this and its easy when you get in the habit.
  5. Hence the old saying "there's more than one way to skin a cat"
  6. Looks like a set of modeling tools, a stitching or lacing chisel, a couple of lacing needles and I cant tell what the rest are. I cant get it big enough to see.
  7. That is a nice setup for sure. I was thinking about making mine a suspender type such as this so I could add the mag pouch.
  8. that's cool alright, there are three or four different models on ebay , I don't know crap about them so cant tell you much more. I just searched for union lockstitch.
  9. I punch the top layer then use that as a template for the other layers, most stitching chisels will do two layer or at least mark the bottom piece. After that I use small 1" brads in a few holes to line up all the layers. I put the brads through the top layer glue up everything then push the brads down through the other layers aligning the holes, slide all the layer down the brads and they line up very well, you may need to run an awl through the holes while sewing to open em up a bit.
  10. I see some union lockstitch heads on ebay, folks here say they are good I don't know and don't know if the models are good ones either but they are in your price range.
  11. Well yea that's why I didn't say 100s LOL Only rich folk woulda had a wallet that nice!

  13. it should get you by, realize its not very high carbon steel.and will need to be sharpened more often
  14. Very cool yup my dad taught me that years ago. Its basically the same thing. thanks for sharing.
  15. Cant is also effected by drawing style, there was a time in firearm history where the gun was drawn more rearward, tipped to point forward at the point it cleared the holster , the elbow then moved forward and planted firmly on the side and the gun fired from that point without aiming, you've seen it in old westerns. The side plant was taught to law enforcement as late as the 70s that I know of as my dad shot that way in fact he never used two hands to shoot a handgun was taught by law enforcement and was very accurate. Nowadays with the forward cant the barrel is drawn out of the holster in a forward type sweep and the barrel pointed forward during the rotation of the arm and wrist as it comes up to the ready position. In the end however it is personal preference and what feels good to the shooter. If ya like it go for it.
  16. https://ohiotravelbag.com/collections/artisan-snap-hooks try here.
  17. In my town two things hamper this, rent is friggin crazy for a business 2 k a month+ and just to small of town. Right now most of my work comes from word of mouth, FB, or online. I do plan on expanding this year as my kids are now old enough to help but the storefront is still a no go, most will be going north to the touristy folk in consignment shops and such my basement gets an overhaul for leather and my garage for knives lol.
  18. Great job! I built mine out of recycled pine from an old shipping container. two square shank machine screws, two wing nuts two washers and two wood screws and some leather of course.
  19. stropping works well for really hard blades like razors and will break off and smooth that wire edge, that's why they call them razor strops lol. I don't see it doing much good on the milder steels or blades with high angles, as you said it rounds them due to the flex.
  20. Now that you mention it yes. Thank you! a guy could sew a faux strap around it to enhance that look I'll bet Thank you. The two tone will even out I rubbed it down good with Feibings golden mink oil but and it sinks in faster where the leather isn't flexed Thank you!
  21. wow that is some fine work indeed. That belt took some time I'll bet.
