  1. Thanks yea it came out pretty nice, much better than my ground down putty knife and about 60 on the hardness scale. Would love to have a coke forge I live in coal country. If you need pics of my burner let me know I did a lot of research and then built one that will run naturally aspirated or with a blower. and its super easy to build. It'll turn regular fire brick into a puddle of glass lol.

It is a four-cylinder simple articulated 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy" type built in 1941 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) of Schenectady, New York. No. 4014 is the only operating Big Boy of the eight that remain in existence.

  13. Awesome little blade, great steel from what I 've seen so far it takes a keen edge and keeps it! I've been using it for a lot of skiving as well as other chores on the work table. I cant thank you enough!
  14. use water to keep it cool grind a bit then dip in water. Take your time and you wont lose the temper.
  15. That's a nice edge and grind you did it should do just fine.
  16. Here's how I do mine for bigger knives. The folks around here, Wyoming, are really going for the crossdraw style sheaths , the smaller knives would work and look great that way.
  17. I know this isn't a leather machine but I gotta tell you folks. About a year ago my daughter, who likes to make stuffed animals, was using it and it started missing stitches and hanging up. Well I had another old singer 401a that I was given and cleaned it up for her to use. This week after making masks all week I decided to try my luck at fixing the problem with the Kenmore as it is a free arm and is useful for clothing repair. Well I have literally taken that darn thing apart 20 times cleaned every inch of it, oiled it, watched every d%^n youtube video on timing issues and basically pulled all my hair out with no real luck. I switched bobbins, needles, hook assemblies, timed it , re timed it and still it would miss a stitch and hang up once in a while with no real reason sometimes four or five times in a row. After THREE friggin days and a spool of thread I figured it out!!!! I noticed the plate that the needle goes through had been hit with bent needles and damaged to the point the burrs were catching the thread randomly and causing the missed stitches, filed it up nice a nd smooth and runs like new!!!!! Hopefully this info may help someone out as I would think leather machines could suffer the same problem.
