  1. veg tanned leather has no oils applied after tanning that is what we do its called liquoring and it is the starting point of re adding oils to the veg tanned leather. What you may not realize is that liquoring is what we do when we apply oils on veg tan, until we do that no oils have been applied after tanning that is what we do and it is the long term.
  2. To think the effects of various oils on leather has never been considered is silly, its been studied for centuries, you just have to look for the research its a multi billion dollar industry. Here is one i found in about ten minutes. I will add you will have to find old studies for reliable information, any new info will be tainted by the climate change agenda so I'm sure fossil fuel derived oils will not be on the top ten list in any new publication. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/339328369_Leather_and_Textile_Uses_of_Fats_and_Oils I have more but my links were dropped when i re-set my box.
  3. That is a very cool idea for a brush for any critter including people don't stop thinking at the barn door. You do need more practice making and to refine it. the background isn't to dark for your sunflower but it is for the pig as there is no contrast. I would suggest you use two pieces of leather, top and bottom, the bottom would have a oval hole for the bristles and come up tight around them then laced or sewn at the the rim of the handle to the top piece so that no plastic handle shows at all.
  4. You made a very nice case!! but 400 bucks for a pry bar and who in the heck carries one every day? jeez I'm doing something wrong.
  5. i knew when folks started asking if i could make them one of my holsters. Then it just grew slowly by word of mouth.
  6. yuuuum!! that makes me hungry, fried zuchinni sticks tonight and Elk steaks with maybe a few fried green tomatoes all out of the garden or off the land. Here's my prize carrot for the year lol it would make a meal by itself.
  7. I'm not a procrastinator, I just like to plan ahead.
  8. What Joel said is a good idea. The bottom line is to teach them to do it correctly so..... you just cant do some things in 4 hours correctly. They could also tool and apply acrylic paints then a sealer in 4 hours with the help of a blow dryer.
  9. Holy cow that was a tight fit and a big chunk of iron to boot. That is one cool tractor my friend!!! i notice the alternator instead of the original generator lol. i remember my dad teaching me to rebuild generators as a kid and starters lol.
  10. years ago, 20+, a tree fell in my yard and tore out a fence smashed my canoe, took out part of my roof and bent the mast on my service. I was given bad info from the state electrical inspector at the time who said i would have to have my whole house electrical updated which would have been several thousands that I just didn't have so i have lived with the problem until this last year or two when the power lines started wearing on my eaves causing a real dangerous problem. I have saved up all year got an estimate and was really relieved at the relatively small cost but damn am i pissed at that jerk that lied to me. I have missed a lot of sleep over this.
  11. lol you be careful haven't heard of the lever its the greatest invention ever. if its to big to move by your self then lever be and go get help. lol.. You had to pull the radiator to get to the water pump? it must be pretty tight clearances. I appreciate the compliment i have gotten a bit shaky hopefully i can get better. as time goes.
  12. That came out really nice your going to make alot of work for yourself when folks see that.
  13. and i have taken up sketching again, man am i ever out of practice lol. hopefully I'll get better i plan on doing one every morning.
  14. because you can cut off an ear tag a steal the cow sn also what Bruce said.
  15. i use em folks like the look here.
  16. omg those are some expensive plugs lol. But I'll bet parts for a new tractor would be just as expensive or even much more. Old iron is worth every penny and minute you put into it. I just spent 2500 on a new electrical service for my house, a tree fell many years ago and bent the mast so the power lines were rubbing on my eaves. I have been without the ability to do much with electrical tools this summer so my knife making has suffered as well as my leather work. Our garden escaped a frost last night but any day we will be done gardening. AS fred says you can flush it and if it isnt leaking your good to go. My old burb is ready for hunting season but my camper is in need of repair. the front window has been leaking and has destroyed the wood frame, i have the skin peeled off now and todays chore is to rebuild the frame them reattach the skin. A yeesh I didn't know that.
  17. thank you both and I'm glad you like them and they are working out for you guys. i made one for myself also lol they do perform pretty darn nicely.
  18. we will harvest the seeds if they reach maturity, first frost could be any day now. Th garbanzo beans/ chic peas are awesome they make a nice crunchy snack.
  19. baked garbanzo beans!!! drain em, pat dry, coat with olive oil add your favorite spices and bake on a cookie sheet until crunchy. I like creole seasoning on mine.
  20. lol at least its not me this time.
  21. its the same in the western stores. all mass produced and very little leather.
  22. our sunflowers finally bloomed they must be 12 feet tall.
  23. lol do you remember being able to buy m80's and cherry bombs at the fireworks stand as a kid? our mortar was a piece of pipe buried about two feet into the ground with a pop can full of sand as the ammo, we would drop in the m80 then the can then run like heck because the pipe was pretty much straight up.
  24. non custom I put my price on it just like the stores do. if someone doesn't buy I say have a nice day thanks for looking. Custom orders when cost comes up i usually say it depends on what you want it to look like, plain , tooled, hand sewn, machine sewn etc., I feel it gives them an idea of what goes into the making of a product and a way to judge the difference in workmanship. If they try i can get it cheaper thing then i usually say then please go buy it there I'm not going to lower my standards or waste my time making cheap products.
