  1. What Stetson said. Also, if you're a beginner, I'd go for the chisel method. Tracing a line with a divider and pre-punching my holes has enabled me to achieve, in a very short time, stitching that is so consistent that it's common that people ask me if I'm using a machine. My stitching is not perfect, I still get the odd stitch here and there, but nothing like the debacle I'd turn out were I to use a pricking wheel and diamond awl.
  2. Were these files stripped of their extension? I can't see a file extension anywhere, which prompts my computer to ask me what to use to open them.
  3. Is that a JPEG file or some other supported format, such as PNG? If the file is too large, in terms of resolution (like in the thousands of pixels per side) it's likely the forum software won't upload it or display it, even if its size is under 1.46 MB. At the bottom of the Quick Reply field you have a grey band with a paperclip symbol on it, that's where you can upload files from your own computer. Is that what you are using?
  4. TargetRock beat me to that link. Do get those books Ian Atkinson suggests. Valerie Michael's you'll have to buy, but the Al Stohlman ones are available for free at Tandy's Online Library. Do get the second volume of The Art of Making Leather Cases for sure, as it has a whole section on making handles: very useful.
  5. 'Tis good that it's been handled differently over there!
  6. If the grants are being handed out like they are here, your suppliers do need your support. The gov't is holding the grants for businesses for several weeks whilst rolling out the hand outs to the common people, even to those who don't even qualify. We could start speculating why (my take is that they want as many businesses to close as possible), but leaving that aside, businesses are right now in direr straits than the workers. Support your businesses to keep people employed.
  7. Maybe the rumours about Tandy folding are gonna become real sooner than we think.
  8. What kinda leather did you use?
  9. Same here. It used to be Saskatoon, but now it says El Paso, TX, as well. Have you gotten a quote for the shipping? They have a marquee on their page saying free shipping in Canada if you order $150 or more. How much are you spending on this one order? Do you qualify for that? I had three items in my cart and when asking for a quote it still says "C$12.00 CAD Standard Delivery". What does it say on your end?
  10. Any indicators/evidence to substantiate that assessment? I don't buy leather from Tandy, but I do purchase tools, hardware, and supplies from them.
  11. Renia Colle de Cologne. I also use water-based Renia Aquilim 315, but I've found that it can come apart. I mostly use to secure the leather whilst stitching. Colle de Cologne is permanent.
  12. https://www.rmleathersupply.com/
  13. No machines here, used or wanted. I use Ritza Tiger thread exclusively.
  14. ~3 oz. It's there in the specifications tab on the page Frodo linked to.
  15. What kinda leather did you use?
  16. Well, I've been wiping my belt (made out of W&C English briddle and finished with Leather Balm with Atom Wax) with hand sanitiser and I always end up with black hands.
  17. Amazed I haven't seen this being asked in light of the current events. Is there a way to disinfect a leather item without ruining the finish?
  18. Heh, when I read the title I was expecting a holster to carry comic books in!
  19. Kyoshin Elle. And they come with a rod and paper for sharpening. You can buy them at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply.
  20. Ditto!
  21. Pretty cool!
  22. Immersion?
  23. Simple: You don't. You stay out of the online supersaturated jungle and look to your local market.
  24. Thanks! The mock-up idea is useful.
  25. So, I need to make this Bible bag from 9 oz supple water buffalo leather. I have the inner dimensions, but I'm wondering if I need to add extra measures to the actual pattern to make allowances for leather thickness, &c. I already know I have to add ~1/4" for the stitches—that's accounted for; I was just wondering about other minutiae. TIA for any useful input.
