Thanks. Did not use a stiffener. The two layers are quite stiff. I thought about some plastic cutting mats that I use when I dye, but really didn't want to use that much cement.

Thanks guys. The dark brown is Horween chrome tan, the main body is a mystery side I got at the Pendelton show a few years ago and the inside is chrome tan goat.
The billet end is 7/8 veg tan, as it should hold up better than chrome.
My son wanted a three ring to keep is proofs, and this is what I came up with. There are a couple of things I will change if I do another one, but I'm pretty happy with it.
I'm not sure I understand your point. The only threads I use are linen and sometimes hemp. I refuse to us synthetic threads for my handmade leather goods.
Just my personal choice, but I don't use paint or varnish on my wood projects either.
