  1. Very nice! Would it be possible to get more details of the construction?
  2. Here is a slightly cheaper set on eBay. Craftool 3/4" (19 mm) Leather Art Alphabet Set Tandy Leather Item 8145-00 98834812524 | eBay

    Edgers?

The 'toes' on the one to the left seem to be bent in. It looks like it has been sharpened quite a bit, causing them to be thinner than original specs.

    Edgers?

    No mystery here.
  5. As I recall, new/as issued, these were quite stiff and became "broke in" with use.
  6. Could be, but I would never trust it with any of MY firearms.
  7. You do know that chrome tan will remove the bluing from firearms? I only use veg tan for lining.
  8. And horse is better yet. Far denser than either beef or buffalo. Two layers of horse butt and no stiffener is going to improve it.
  9. If there was an easy way, everyone would be doing it. And hides/leather would be much cheaper.
  10. I agree 100%. I HAVE a sewing machine, but I have never used it , other than a place to pile things. I enjoy handsewing, I think it looks better, and I think it is stronger. And as for my 'time', I'm old, retired and I don't GAF about time any more. I have many other things that are more important.
  11. Goat and sheep are other good choices. Falcons has a post with Italian sheep scraps in large pieces. They would work well. Leather Scrap - Member Gallery - Leatherworker.net
  12. I have never had leather shrink while casing. In fact, I've never had it shrink at all. Stretch yes, shrink, never.
  13. Bushmill's? If you say so.
  14. The Irish have never gotten it quite right, no matter HOW hard they try.
  15. That is why the Scots invented WHISKEY!!!
  16. Most oil tans are chrome tanned. And if the scabbard is wood and just covered with leather, then it won't matter what tannage you use.
  17. I would suggest a matting tool, like an F899 or F900. This will 'feather' your beveling out so the letter doesn't look like it's sitting 'in a hole'. I think you'll find it makes a big difference. Otherwise, your carving is going nicely.
  18. Very nice! Your carving has improved greatly.
  19. By "suede" do you mean split leather? Or are you planning on actual suede? Either way, give this product a look. I used it on my buckskins with no change of color or texture. Natural Leather Protector - 16oz (beenaturalleathercare.com)
  20. I have a collection of old porcelain insulators that I use. All sorts of different sized "grooves" for any size project.
  21. I would ask how much you would use it. I've done all sorts of holsters, rifle cases, slings, etc in the last 35 years, and never felt the need for a machine. Your choice of course, but I greatly prefer hand sewn vs machine sewn.
  22. Thank you. Thanks. No, it is a Springfield Armory Range Officer.
  23. Nicely done. I remember Reddy from my childhood, haven't seen him in ages.
