  1. You might give some thought to putting 3/4" plywood down under the marble. Any blows over an unsupported area may be prone to cracking.
  2. I also set mine to use a stool or stand. It gives me more options. I think you will be happy with your setup.
  3. I just use NFO on them. I don't use any of the plastic finishes on any of my projects.
  4. Great job. Everything a holster should be, functional AND attractive.
  5. Very nice indeed!
  6. You certainly could, but it's much faster to just use a strap cutter.
  7. A round knife is definitely the correct tool for the job. But I would suggest an Osborne rather than the one from Tandy. Once you get used to it you will wonder why you used anything else.
  8. I clearly understood him to say he used NFO. It is the only thing I use any more.
  9. It is caused by the stretch of the leather. I know of no way to stop it.
  10. Plastic??? Really??
  11. Sunlight is in no way needed to "dry" skins. Air movement is what is needed.
  12. First, I don't do anything Metric. But when I get ready to start a project I just look at the leather, judge it's firmness, or lack of, and choose it that way. Those numbers really have no meaning to me. I suppose if I ordered leather sight unseen it might be a guideline.
  13. Cover them in cornmeal, it will draw out a lot of the oil.
  14. What TYPE of leather are you using? Is it veg tanned? Chrome?
  15. You might try Oxalic acid. However, IF it removes the stain, you might have the opposite problem of the spots being lighter than the surrounding leather. Try it in a small, inconspicuous area to see. Here is a link to a thread about it. Oxalic Acid And Cleaning Leather - Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners. - Leatherworker.net
  16. It is out there, but VERY expensive!!!! Bridlework: A Step by Step Guide by Robert H. Steinke (2010-05-03): Robert H. Steinke: 9780615395586: Amazon.com: Books
  17. POOR management would be better than what we have.

  19. My granddaughter tipped a bottle of red. My tooling slab looks like a sacrificial alter.
  20. I am REALLY glad I stopped reading this thread on the 2nd page!
  21. I don't DIP anything except chips. Everything is done with a dauber or a rag. I don't have the space or resources to have a "dip area".
  22. Another tip is to cover one side with heavy paper or light cardboard. Line up one point and gradually remove the paper as you line up your edges. I learned that trick installing Formica. An accidental contact with that stuff is a major PITA.
