  1. I have a stack of cracker/cereal boxes I use for all my patterns. If the project is too big for those I go into the college book store and buy sheets of heavy poster board.
  2. Thanks guys, it was a labor of love for my girl. Doing what we do, I sometimes spend more time with her than I do with my wife. She is as close to a daughter as I have.
  3. Beautiful!!!! Love me some GOOD basketweave, and you NAILED it! Very nice indeed!
  4. Very nice! I always loved that white spot on those.
  5. It is a 'mystery' side I got at a show a few years ago. I'm guessing it's shrunk, I know it's chrome tan. Lined it with 2oz veg goat and the re-enforcement/belt loop is 6oz veg. I may line the loop with goat on the next one for extra strength, but the Security 9 is pretty light and she won't be carrying it all that often.
  6. My 'Work Daughter' (she's too young to be my work wife) and I have the same pistol, so it was easy to create this without her knowing about it. When she opened the box she loved it. And I'm pretty happy with it as well.
  7. Welcome to the group.
  8. Very nice! Would it be possible to get more details of the construction?
  9. Here is a slightly cheaper set on eBay. Craftool 3/4" (19 mm) Leather Art Alphabet Set Tandy Leather Item 8145-00 98834812524 | eBay

    Edgers?

The 'toes' on the one to the left seem to be bent in. It looks like it has been sharpened quite a bit, causing them to be thinner than original specs.

    Edgers?

    No mystery here.
  12. As I recall, new/as issued, these were quite stiff and became "broke in" with use.
  13. Could be, but I would never trust it with any of MY firearms.
  14. You do know that chrome tan will remove the bluing from firearms? I only use veg tan for lining.
  15. And horse is better yet. Far denser than either beef or buffalo. Two layers of horse butt and no stiffener is going to improve it.
  16. If there was an easy way, everyone would be doing it. And hides/leather would be much cheaper.
  17. I agree 100%. I HAVE a sewing machine, but I have never used it , other than a place to pile things. I enjoy handsewing, I think it looks better, and I think it is stronger. And as for my 'time', I'm old, retired and I don't GAF about time any more. I have many other things that are more important.
  18. Goat and sheep are other good choices. Falcons has a post with Italian sheep scraps in large pieces. They would work well. Leather Scrap - Member Gallery - Leatherworker.net
  19. I have never had leather shrink while casing. In fact, I've never had it shrink at all. Stretch yes, shrink, never.
  20. Bushmill's? If you say so.
  21. The Irish have never gotten it quite right, no matter HOW hard they try.
  22. That is why the Scots invented WHISKEY!!!
