Nice job. Them look great. Nice work on the wet molding.

Looks good Frodo. I'll order the 830 camouflage stamp when I place another order thru Pro leather carvers. Keep up the good work!
-
Yeah I just decided I'm going to order a set of KS Blade v2 diamond pricking irons. Expensive, but I hear good things about them. The diamond is slimmer on them.
-
Well I'm glad it's working out for you. I was hoping you could understand my jibberish instructions. That's also why I figured, i best include a picture of it. Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.

This is what the "S" looks like on your needle. Then from there you just slide your thread over the eye of the needle. From the pointed end.
-
You just pull your thread thru your needle eye & leave a 4-5" tail of thread, then you pierce your thread with your needle. Then from there just pierce your thread again, & it will create a "S" on you needle. Then grasp the "S" & pull it over the eye over your needle. Lmao I hope you can understand my jibberish.

If you get a amazon machine, like a shoe patcher or whatever it's called. Is going to take a bunch of hand finishing work to get it up & sew consistently & smoothly. The cheapest options I can think of is. Weaver 303 Cowboy 797 Sailite leatherworker/fabricator.

I dont think this is obtainable at $200.

Looks great! Nice work.

Yeah I wish they made the rocky mountain thread in some larger diameters. I think the .55mm thread is in that 207-277 thread size.
-
Yeah this was labelled as a grade 1 whole hide. Lmao but I think someone stole his head. If that hole would not have been there I could of got 5 nice wallet backs. I think I'll make me a wallet back from its glory hole part of the hide & have a eye looking thru it. I'm not to mad, I bought the hide cheap enough & think i could double my money on it.
-
Lmao I thought when you buy a whole hide, you get a whole hide. They robbed his head & the piece that is there has a dang hole right smack in the middle. Like a bullet hole.
-
No problem with it knotting up while sewing. I'm not trying to sell you on it. But it is worth trying. Polyester is the name I was trying to remember. Lmao.
-
No it's a braided poly thread. Uv resistant, unaffected by moisture. It seems to be good stuff. Everything I sew is with poly thread. Sorry kinda absent minded temporarily.
-
Looks good! So does item that hold a box of shotgun shells? Thanks.
-
Thanks Frodo, next time I'm shopping for stamps I'll pick them up. Looking good there. Nice wallet.
-
Here is some of that Rocky Mountain Poly-Braid. It is .55mm diameter or they say its similar to 532 linen. I think it is in that 207 maybe 277 thread size.

Yeah I was going to buy the fancy brass weights, Till I seen they cost $50-$80each. These are doing just fine. I should cut them in half to make 4 weights of 1.8lbs each.
-
No Bob that is my Wuta alcohol spirit lamp in the upper left hand corner. Here is a better pic of it. Now here are my leather weights! Caterpillar piston wrist pins. 3.8lbs each. Covered with some 8-9oz veg-tan.

Will just put this sucker here!!!

I have yet to try Ritza Tiger thread. But I have some similar flat style threads & I cant seem to get the same consistency with flat thread as a round thread. Now I recently started using some rocky mountain braided poly thread & I really like this stuff. Wax is about perfect, tightly braided, lots of colors, UV protected. Might be a bit pricey at $9.00/roll if bought in bulk.

I may be totally wrong, so keep that in mind. But to me it looks like you are scratching your leather with 1 side of the beveler leg. To me it looks like you need to roll/lean your edge beveler away from the leather. Towards the outer edge. Also to me them bevels show classic signs of a dull beveler. Like I said I may be totally wrong & off my rocker. Hope I helped in some constructive way.
-
Might look into some of this leather. Its soft & a 3oz calfskin leather from italy. I would think some leather like this would be ideal. This is the pebble finished stuff, but they make it in a smooth calfskin as well
-
I'm thinking the sawtooth bevels are from a dull edge beveler. Another trick to sharpen a edge beveler is: Lay a harness needle on the table & cover the needle with a piece of sand paper of fine grit. Then pull your edge beveler over the top of the harness needle & sand paper. Then you can flip your sand paper & add green rouge to the sand paper & pull your beveler back over it, till its polished.
