  1. You might try Appling your dye with a air brush. Then you can fade & darken areas as you like them.
  2. Thanks I appreciate your input.
  3. Welcome to the group. Bunch of great peeps here. Enjoy!
  4. Conceria Walpier Buttero is a Italian veg tan leather. I love it because of the hand/firmness it has & the way the edges burnish up. Really nice leather to work with & tons of colors. I just recently started using some of it for my wallets & I love the end results when finished.
  5. Looks great. Nice work. What color of dye did you use? Almost has a Buttero leather look to me.
  6. I myself would use something bigger than a wool dauber. I myself would use a sponge, that has more coverage area, per pass. I would also have my dye in a dish like a disposable pie pan. I would dip one side of the sponge in the dye real quick like & pull it back out & kinda let the dye soak into the sponge. That way it don't drip. Drips off of the sponge is a bad deal & can wreck a project. Then i would start my dye application process to the project, & continue to repeat till I got my desired results. Uniform color & desired color depth. Try dying some of your scrap leather you cut your hat out of first. That way you have a idea how the dye is going to react to the leather.
  7. That's a hard question to answer I think. Only reason I say that is: it seems like every different piece of leather I have dyed, takes different approaches/dying technique to achieve certain results. Lol now this is what I found when I recently started using Fiebings Pro Dye.
  8. I do everything from a phone & I'm too computer illiterate to figure it out.
  9. Would you be nice enough to tell me, just what it cost/what you charged to sew patches on. I'm just curious. Thanks.
  10. Thanks @Northmount for that tip. I would have not thought about that. Thats a great tip & trick. Thanks.
  11. Yep gatogordo done it like I would have. I bet you could even machine sew if you like. Nice!
  12. Here you go, Amazon or eBay has both styles plus many more.
  13. I'm not sure where you folks are located. But there is a few other guys that make them embossing plates. I know a couple that make custom made to order embossing plates. I believe the couple I know, use derlin lmao I don't think that it's spelled it right.
  14. I've had the same issue with the tri point needles on occasion. But if I pay close attention I can avoid it. If you want better odds of not cutting threads on back stitch, maybe try the spear point leather needles. Know as a "S" point.
  15. OK thanks. I have been painting in the stamping with a detail paint brush with super shene. But yes I have my hit & misses with that procedure. Lmao I'm not as steady as I once was.
  16. Yeah I would like to see pictures of the wallet insert you are using. So I don't look like a dummy or recommend the wrong thing to do. Lmao.
  17. SUP is reverse dying the same thing as resist dying? That looks nice. Looks great. Awesome work.
  18. Looks nice! Great work. Love it.
  19. Looks nice to me. I bet functional too. Great work.
  20. Copper for sure will get verdigris if it keeps getting wet & dry. But I think if a guy or gal used contact adhesive & folded the leather around the copper wire & sewed it it would be somewhat sealed from the elements. I think I'm going to try it at some point & see how it fairs out over time.
  21. I plan on making a hat from all leather, except for the lining around the head band. Then using copper or stainless wire around the brim. That way I can shape/bend the brim any way I want.
  22. Nice work. That's awesome. I have been wanting to make a leather hat like that. I would also like to put some type of wire around the brim of it so I can form/ bend it in any shape I want. Great work.
  23. Thanks @bladegrinder I appreciate it. Yeah this sewing machine stuff is all new to me. Lmao, Let's say I have went thru some thread practicing different things. Lol last time I touched a sewing machine was high school, & that's been quite a few years back.
  24. I also believe Weaver Leather has a blade sharpening service.
  25. @SUP go to Ragweed Forge Store, then go to Knife making, then pick Fittings. Then you will see all sizes of ferrules, bolsters, guards for knife making. You then will need to find a Ferrule that best fits your dimensions. To make the best fit of ferrule I would pick a ferrule a smidgen undersized then you can fit it to your blade & handle.
