Rattlesnake Knife Sheath
Rolandranch posted a topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Hello, all! My older brother gave me a nice Damascus steel knife for Christmas and I decided to make a sheath that it would look good in. haha! Just kidding... that's the cheap sheath it came with. Here's the real thing... Thanks for looking! -Ryan -
Haven't posted for awhile, so thought I'd throw these up here. I was asked to do a couple knife sheaths for someone making custom knifes, so thought I'd give it a try. I was happy with the way they turned out, hopefully the customer is as well.

Hi, my brother works for a wilderness NGO and needed a new sheath for hie leatherman. the color and the wolf was choosen, since it is part of their logo. The wolf is more bad than good, but my first carving experience. this is my 5th project. Enjoy! I first cut off too much of the upper part, therefor I had to add an extra layer :-)

This is a sheath I enjoy making and it has proven to be efficient design that stays out of the way of a side arm or a backpack. Comments are welcome. Hoping each of you are doing well. Scott

This is a custom case for a leatherman tool that I did recently. It's 5 oz. Hermann Oak that I wet molded on a wooden last that I made. It' has a hand tooled floral/engraving style design and initial. I used Fiebing's Medium Brown dye and Angelus Matte Finish. I also used a hidden magnetic closure to show off the tooling. It's lined with calfskin and hand stitched.

Hi, i am completly new to working with leater, so I might post my very first projects - I have done a lot of mistakes and please critisiue whereever you can! 1) The Mans Purse .. veg leather with a homemade vintage coloring (attempt) and firstwetforming ever (bottom) the seam fell appart and I had to renew everything. I learned that "carving" the Letters isn't so easy in already dyed leather :-) 2) old Kukuri Knife .... the wooden part was covered with sheep leather and the loop was veg leather where i glued the sheep leather as outer lining ... to match the color... At least the wetforming with Alc/shampoo/water worked.. What I learned: contact glue is a bit** .. once the parts touched the stick together like hell... so the whole wet forming didgn't wor anymore : -) Hope you like them, and esp. with the knife I will add the progress pics

Well...just finished a scabbard for a scimitar. 5oz veg with a simple geometric pattern, no frills dealio for a friend. I was excited to get some pictures up and show off my first sword sheath. Delivered it...he was happy with it, and all was well. Got home and realized I didn't take any pics of the finished product...duh. Maybe next time! Anyways, below is the only pic I took during the project.

It started as a damascus blade blank from a local knife show (1095 & 15n20), 5" blade: Then I added leather scales (horse butt?): Then wrapped in alligator and fastened the scales, and started the sheath with 5.5oz leather: And N52 magnets: I designed the sheath so the knife could fit in facing either direction: Wrapped in alligator: And stitched together, attatch strap, and done: The strap is attached with a chicago screw and it swivels, so I can wear it IWB or OWB. Yes, it took a very long time, but if I did it again it would be much quicker next time, now that I have some clue what I'm doing. This was my first knife handle, and first sheath.

Small knife is a 3.5" blade with a dangler. Had free reign on these so took the opportunity to work on my carving and coloring techniques.

Prototype knife sheath for right or left hand carry. Dangler (removable), high or scout belt mount. Needs a couple of small tweaks, but the first fit worked. 8-9 oz vegtan leather. Eco-flo medium brown stain with olive thread and natural edges sealed and polished with a wax compound. Matte acrylic finish. Vert simple to modify pattern for longer or shorter knives and differ blade width. Pictured with my http://www.xxxknives.com Bushman Pro. 1.5″ wide x 4.5″ long blade. 4.5″ handle.

Two more...one is "almost just like" the first two, the last is because the guy wanted two, and I thought I'd try out the new airbrush. Hey, he should have been more specific. The airbrushed one is actually my trophy wife's fave. Once again, the "club colors" of the VFW Warriors club are black and yellow... you guessed, right? The pic shows the nasty-a$$ed sheaths they knives came with, and my "new and improved" sheaths. Keeping in mind that the blades didn't really deserve any more than the aforementioned N-A sheaths shown.

Second sheath. It looks a lot like the first sheath, because the first sheath showed up at the Harley riders VFW club. Next request for one was immediate. That's a good thing, right? Second request was for one "just like the first one". Not as much fun for me, it was like I'd been there before. It was a different knife though, so that was nice. First pic is the first sheath, second pic is today's completion.

I made a sheath for an old Japanese sushi knife I rediscovered buried in my kitchen drawer. I spent 3 hours honing the blade to remove nicks it had from banging around the drawer unprotected. I gave the knife to my son and decided it needed a sheath to protect the blade and keep his fingers safe when grabbing the knife from the drawer. I used two layers of 4-5 oz veg tan and used the same leather for the welts. Put a small piece of pigskin inside to cover the snap and keep it from rubbing against the blade. i'm still learning how to use my Cowboy CB4500 and I have to get better keeping my stitches an even distance around the edges. I used the roller edge guide for the first time and it worked well, but I had to hold the sheath up a bit to keep the piece level due to the uneven backside caused by the strap. I sealed the dye with resolene then applied two coats of a homemade mix consisting of beeswax, carnuba, neetsfoot oil, and lanolin. Heated the leather with a hairdryer to melt the wax in and buffed it out. I appreciate any feedback!

Got a nice set of Cuda brand pliers, diagonal cutters, and braid cutter as a gift from my wife for fishing. Decided to make a nice sheath for the set, and I got way too into the project. First time with this type of project, had a great time and didn't encounter many obstacles during the build. I prefer a belt clip to the more traditional loop style. I also used a tri-weave stamp along with a few other basic stamps to decorate. All stainless hardware. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Made another one this time longer and scout carry. This one is a retirement gift that come with a shinny nickle.( not pictured )

Well, I did a molded one for my folder, quite a while ago, but this is the first fixed blade type. A co-worker won a knife at a Harley ride a couple of weeks ago and he wasn't impressed with the plastic, (maybe kydex...) abomination that came with it. Their VFW Harley riders club is the "Warriors", and I knew he was retired from the USAF, so I worked up something with that theme. The wings logo was interesting, I didn't have a stamp that would do it right, so I used a couple of small straight blade screwdrivers. Their colors are black and yellow, and I didn't have the means to do the lettering in yellow, so I went with yellow Tiger thread in .8mm.

Just finished this custom Leatherman Surge belt sheath. Molded leather, with a side pen holder. Also, I built in a small "pocket" behind the main compartment to store the extra removable saw blase and file. This is for my son, who needs it at work and the factory LM sheath just didnt cut the mustard for him. I think he liked it....he called it "legit"!

So I've finally taken some pictures of my projects. I've been a busy beaver My favorite by far is the embossed alligator wallet. I made one for myself as a tester and for some reason the embossed gator feels so amazing in the hand! Thanks for checking it out. There are several things that I know I could do better on each, but if you see something you would like to critique feel free

Hi everyone. This is my first post. I wanted to thank the community for all I read here about vinegar black. I am madly in love with using mordant instead of dye. I was able to turn out an impulse project in no time with my month old brew. It's a holster for my fabric scissors. I made the mistake of using the live edge of the hide for the rim (I liked the soft curve of it), but it's too floppy and soft for my liking, so I know next time to either line the rim or be sure to use a tougher inner part of the hide for that edge. It was instantly gratifying and deeply satisfying. I'm thankful for this forum and hope I can post and read more when I can get my head out of my work. Take care everyone! ~gemfox

I'm a big knife fan, one of my favorite patterns is the Case Peanut. I currently have 4 of them. This is my second molded item...a pocket case for this small pocket knife..... This is a synthetic purple model....and the slip pays homage to that by being dyed purple inside. Dark green stitching. Pretty pleased with it. Started a work-carry molded shesth with my younger son today for his Leatherman tool. That'll be my most complex item yet.

I've been messing with leather for a year or so as I have time. This is maybe my best piece. I still get my stiching holes crooked on the blind side. Anyone have ideas how to not do that? Any criticism is welcome.
