I need help identifying what kind of western saddle I have and how much it could be worth. I'm an english jumper so I don't know much of anything about the western disciplines and types of saddles. I haven't used this saddle, it was given to me a couple years ago and I'd like it to go to someone who'd put it to use. I plan on selling it but the only information I have is 00 2015. Any information is welcomed and appreciated, thank you!

I am going to begin to start making western chaps. Does anyone know what type of tanning process the ranchers used in the 18th century. I am more interested in natural tanning techniques.

I am very new to leather working. I am starting off with making bronc halters, earrings, hat patches and similar western style accessories. I have goals to make western horse tack in the future when I have more experience. My question is what is the best sewing machine for these types of items that is simple enough for a newbie to use? I have tried reading through the forums but there’s so much information it’s overwhelming. Would it be better to hand sew them for now? I apologize if these questions have already been answered on here this is my first post and still learning how to use this site. Thanks in advance. Also I am located in the United States.

I collected a number of pattern sets over the years which, due to closing the business, I don't need any more. There is a list below with original retail costs. I would like to sell them all in one bunch, if I can, maybe to someone who is starting out, or who is teaching. They make a nice library. The pattern packs all contain multiple patterns or multiple sizes, as appropriate. I have used some, others I haven't, but they are all complete. The original costs total up to $144, but I would like to sell the whole lot for$45 including shipping in continental USA. That's just over four bucks a piece. Tandy Leather: Vest Pattern Pack #6001-00, $6.99 Men's Vest Pattern Pack #62666-00, $6.99 Rifle Case #6028-00, $6.99 Horse Tack Accessory #6025, $6.99 Will Ghormley Patterns Cowboy Cuffs, 12 patterns and tooling guide, $40.00 Law Dog Holster, Patterns to fit 25 popular pistols, with two tooling patterns, $40 Springfield Leather Company, Motorcycle Accessories Pattern and Instruction Pack, Saddle bags, roll bags, swing arm bags, tool bags, $23 Al Stohlman's book "How to Make Holsters" , Craftool #40, Complete instructions for every step from drawing to stitching and tooling. Very complete guide. $13 Cheers! Steve

Hello friends, I have recently inherited a very old saddle. Through a little bit of cleaning discovered that it was manufactured by the late F.O.Baird. There is not a lot of information on this maker available on the internet today. Mostly of what I dug up was related to his artwork and very little of his saddles other than their auction prices. What I did find about the saddles is that they are highly collectible and rare to find. I'm looking for a little more information -- if anyone happens to have any to share it will be appreciated. https://photos.app.goo.gl/FGUt4YYFAexcmgTD8

Hey all! These are a couple wallets I made recently.. I've been pretty reluctant to sell wallets but I'm growing to enjoy it as I figure out how to work with the thinner leather! I made the two-tone wallet for my dad for Father's Day, and the natural colored one was an order from a friend in California. Both are 4-5 oz HO, with 2-3 oz HO interiors. I'd be glad to hear any advice and critiques! -Morgan Here's the other wallet:

I've taken the leap to commit to making leatherwork my full-time gig. The first major step was to learn how to make saddles (just western for now) Finished saddle making school with Pete Harry from Pembroke, KY at the beginning of the month. Now that I'm back, I've opened up my business to building western saddles and do saddle repairs (in addition to all the other things I've made over the years). Now to get TLLeatherworks (Tree of Life Leatherworks) out there in social media. Already got a few repair jobs in

This chrome finished peplum leather jacket has blood, sweat, and tears rolled into it and I couldnt be more proud to finally showcase something I made (the first thing Ive made) from scratch all by myself!- 6 replies

Help please! I'm trying to sell this saddle and need help identifying it. No maker's mark anywhere on it. I think it was bought for barrel racing purposes, given the seat, but am wondering if I'm wrong and it should be listed as a pleasure/trail saddle. Does anyone know its maker and/or can identify its proper classification?

Hello, I’m looking for a name for my leathercraft shop/business. I’m not quite ready to start selling yet, though I would like to have a name and website started and a stamp with my “brand” made. At the moment my Instagram is “Crooked K Leather”: I’m not so fond of it anymore because it’s not too professional. Here is my dilemma, I would have liked “Hoffman Custom Leather”: My last name is Hoffman which is practically unavailable in every realm. I could use my name or middle name but I don’t want anything too feminine. I thought of naming the business after my father from fort worth who is fighting cancer and donate but his name is Jay Lynn. Which is also a big name in the leather world: Jay lynn gore –(Circle Y, pattern designer, Tool maker etc.) So I’m Kind of stumped on name ideas. I want to keep it close to home and short: ____ custom Leather or ____ Leather. I like letters and brands for my logo. im doing western style items and want to do tack in the future. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've been doing reproduction western dress/novelty belts for some time and have found some sources for some of the buckles from the era but one design still eludes me, this 1 3/4"square clipped corner buckle, the one in the first two pictures. I know that there are reproduction buckles made out there but can't for the life of me find anyone who makes them. They come in mainly single prong but also double prong. I was wondering if anyone knew of who makes them or has any leads on where I might find them. Im doing a run of these belts for a denim company and i would love to find these. Thanks

I have long dreamed of being able to make my own headstalls. The only issue is that I truly have no clue after posting here of where to begin. I would really appreciate a list of tools I should invest in. A list of materials and where I can acquire the metal pieces for the headstalls, ie: buckles and other findings. I really like the style tack that Heritage Brand, Bling My Ride, Crown Leather etc. I would really love to find someone to apprentice with or to just take lessons from. I am located in Southwest Montana, so if you or someone you know would be willing to give me some hands on help, I would be very eager to learn! I am not opposed to paying for lessons either!

Dear All! I have a beautiful H.S Lebman saddle that is to heavy for me to manage easily!, I am asking for advice on where is the best internet site to sell it, and also what the 'circa' value, It is a 15.5" Saddle in good condition. I am sorry to have to sell it but for long distance rides its 16 kilo is too much weight! any advice much appreciated The stamp says H.S Lebman, San Antonio, Texas, and in the center of that is S.Flores and under that name I think the number 37.

A friend of mine found out that I have been doing leather work. He wants me to make him a pair of chinks. I have not made a pair yet. I bought the Tandy pattern for them. Anyone got any good tips for me to get started with? IE type of leather for belt and body, size of belt.

My daughter asked if I could make her a belt, so to the leather store we went. Would you expect anything less as I said she could pick anything she wanted:) I was not expecting it to be $80-100 to make a belt(that was elite pricing). Used light weight saddle skirting(12-13oz) with deertan cowhide lining, nice substantial belt. Been a little while since I posted anything….. What do y'all think????? Allan

Hello! I recently lost my horse and have been cleaning out my tackroom (selling, throwing stuff away, etc..) I have had this saddle for over 8 years and the person who gave it to me said it was at least 15 years old at the time he gave it to me. I never really used it, because it is too big for me. However, I am trying to sell it now and realize there is no brand mark or anything to tell me how much it is worth. All I know is: It is at least 15 years old leather broken in has Blevin Buckles If anyone has any information on who might have made it or how much it is worth, please let me know! (there are no brands or marks on it)
