Hold the beveler straight up and down about a 16 or so of a inch off the leather start with tapping / hitting it and move the beveler a small amount each time and you will have a smooth bevel. Something as small as the shield i would just wet it like you did and wait till looks about dry and start working. When the moisture is just right the tool will leave a dark mark. On you shield it looks like you set the beveler down each time and thats what made the tracks.

Changed To Thicker Thread, Hell Broke Lose!
dirtclod replied to Christoffer's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Have you tried a new needle and a different spool of thread ? I had a spool thread that i just couldn't use. It would fray or break when i tried to use it.- 23 replies

I think I would add a strap on either side of the bucket back up to the sholder strap to help support the bucket.

Round and head knife. 4 inch or less a 5 inch knife gets you to far from work IMHO.

dirtclod replied to BDAZ's topic in Sewing Leather
Set the tension for the 5 ounce piece and it should sew fine on the thicker part my machine does anyway. -
When i got my needles several years ago i asked about a box of a 100 and at that time they were a 1.50 apiece buying a 100 at a time. Local they were 3.00 a piece buying 10. Oh they were for a American straight needle.

Go a hardware store or a auto parts store take your tool with you and look at the rubber line at the part store and the rubber line at the hardware store. Slip it down onto the tool and it makes it eaiser to hold. I've done it on a few of my stamps.

New england needles.com .I bought some from them several years ago.

On my Singer post machine theirs a knob inside the hand wheel end that you turn to adjust the stitch length. Your machine maybe like that to.

2 Issues - Thread Tension And Edge Guide For Pfaff 1245
dirtclod replied to AnotherLeatherGirl's topic in How Do I Do That?
I think all you need to do is loosen the screw in the front and move the guide ( looks like you may have to take the guide part out to move it where it needs to be ) till it sets flat on the machine. -
Glad it was a easy fix. I have a spool of thread that coils up bad, i took a piece of panty hose and sliped over the spool and that helped a lot

I would buy a new Consew or Chandler before i spent a 1000.00 on a used machine. That way you have a warranty and dealer support. http://www.tolindsewmach.com/chandler-406rb.html http://www.tolindsewmach.com/consew-206rb.html

I don't see how how you did any good at all with a rubber mallet. If you need something kinda light you can drill 2 holes in the plastic mallet and expoy some lead shot in the head for more weight if you know somebody that reloads shotgun shells they should give or sell you enough for that. Personally i use a maul a 16 ounce one and 22 ounce one.
