  1. Did you check bunkhouse tools http://www.shop.bunkhousetools.com/Blackhawk-6-1-2-910.htm? They have a Ruger blackhawk 6 1/2" barrel. Give them a call he will give you the specs.
  2. Sorry for duplictate. It would not let me delete completely.
  3. I am afraid I won't be much help to you in pricing idea either. Compare your holster to many of the ones in the knife sheath, holster, sling forum ask yourself wich one you would pay more for. 1st ignore the carving on your holster just look at it as a basic holster and ask yourself how much you would pay for it in comparison to ones made by katsass, Josh, eaglestroker and some of the others that regularly post their work. Compare your holster to theirs and see what improvements you can do. As to Sheridan carving. I would call what you did more western floral. There is more to the Sheridan style then just raised flowers and vines. If you don't already have one get yourself a book like the one shown below. Your holster has more of a western flair. Looks like you are trying to make something along the Tom Three persons style. Lobo has some Three Persons type posted on the holster forum, look at them and compare to your holster. Also go over to cascity.com leathershop forum and look at the western style holsters there. I know you did not ask for a critique, however my tips and the comments made by GrampaJoel are made in the spirit of helping you get to where you will know just by looking at your holster how much you are going to ask for it and no you will be able to get that price. You are right it takes a fair amount of time to do Sheridan style carving.
  4. Check this site they have 1 1/2" black for 84 cents minimum quantity 5. Quanity of 500 would be .63 cents each. http://shopbuckles.com/catalog/BUCKLES/WEB_STRAP/FRICTION_GRIP/05270
  5. First find out how much intrest and if there are enough people in your area to create a guild. You can do this by posting notices on forums like this one, maybe even the leather shop forum on cascity.com. Put out flyers at craft stores even see if Tandy will let you leave flyers or tell people of your guild. Then set up a meeting place even just a restraunt for coffee and to discuss the forming of a guild the fisrt time. Then see if you can locate a meeting place where you can meet and work on projects and carry on guild business. Contact other guilds to see how they were founded and how they sustain membership. Visit this site it is essentialy a guild http://pslac.org/ Maybe even plan a roadtrip to a guild meeting such as Puget Sound Leather Artisans Coop to do a meet greet and see how they conduct their guild.
  6. Very nice. Looks like you got it all. I really like how you worked the cobra head and the angle wings in there.
  7. If you do a search on these forums for Tiger thread you will find a couple of sources for the Tiger thread. THere are a couple of people that are selling it by the spool here in the US and some one is selling it I think 10m lengths. Check with Electrathon on these forumms I think he was planning on buying a quanity and I think he was planning on reselling.
  8. Thats why I suggested you have the customer try the gun in his wait band cross draw to se if he could find a comfortable place. In most cases it will convince them to go with an OWB cross draw or other alternatives. I have been down this road before.
  9. The metal plate is a stiffiner. Normaly you use your thumb to pop the thumb break. The stiffiner give support to the leather so that when your thumb pushes against the thumb break it breaks open. If the stiffiner is not there you will have a harder time opening the thumb break the leather will simply try to fold away from your thumb instead of breaking the snap. The stiffiners are relatively cheap and can be made at home or purchased from a supplier such as High Dessert Leather and I just noticed he has a post today that he has a new shippment in. In the past Rob at the Bluegun store has had them. Make sure there is enough strap with stiffiner extending past the snap so your thumb can catch it.
  10. This is bumping a thread from 2011However Korokan since you woke this thread up I agree you dye then burnish. However EdgeKote is not a dye it is a paint it is desingned to go on after you burnish. If you burnish you are to some extent closing the pores of the leather it makes it harder for the edge to absorb the dye. This may start a controversy, I personaly don't like edge kote. I dye my edges then burnich some times after the dying then doing an initial burnish I will rub paraffin wax on the edge then burnish again. I have had no complaints about my edges, not sying it is the best way just the way it works for me.
  11. Put on some gloves get out some denatured alcahol a course cloth and or a tooth brush and scrub away. Next time you order Blue guns order from Bluegun store, Rob gets all his without the blue finish coat. Or call Rings direct and order from them asking them to leave off the final coat, tell them it is for molding holsters.
  12. Use Gorilla duct tape. However you should first remove that blue top coat from your blue gun. If you don't you are going to leave blue on your holster.
  13. Oops, sorry some how when I was replying I got my wires crossed with one I had just replied to on another forum. The advice remains the same.
  14. Sooper, my recomendation is before you spend a lot of timme researching this. Have her take the UNLOADED firearm and tuck it inside her waistband then have her sit down and see if she can find a position where the gun feels comfortable from shere the holster is positioned. Then have her stand up and see if she can draw it comfortably. She may change her mind. If she still wants it to be IWB cross draw. Then spend your time researching. Most any IWB pattern you have will work just adjust the cant for cross draw.
  15. I am not a proffesional jeweler, however I make some of my conchos. I am q1uite familiar with dapping block and dapping as well as hard and silver soldering. I may be able to help. Feel free to PM me with questions and I will see if I can help. There is also a PDF tutorial for making conchos that might help you. I have attched it in case you have not seen it before. Here is a picture of a blankconcho I just finished, I am getting ready to do a little engraving on it. concho tut pdf.pdf
  16. I have been using the weldwood Non-flammable for about two years. I am very happy with it. I have made at least 20 belts and a hundred holsters with it. Without any problems. It should be stirred before using, however even then it is a little thinner then some of the rest. I brush it on with small brushes from horbor freight. It is important to give it time to dry before putting the pieces together.
  17. If you bought the hair on straps from Tandy that they are currently selling, My personal opinion for what it is worth is that they are not heavy enough to use as belts themselves. If i were going to use them as belts I would laminate them onto a leather strip at least 5-6oz. Then treat the way you would any other belt blank. I was thinking of getting some however I would cut them into smaller pieces and use them as inlays like the attached picture. However I prefer to use calf as it is shorter and seems to shed less. This is not expertise just my opinion based on my experience.
  18. Brazos Jack (Jim Simmons) has a couple of patterns for Pommel Holsters one is a double Pommel Holster and the other is a double Pommel bag with holster. However You said double right hand so I am assuming you are talking about a setup like the first picture. I have not found a pattern for that, However the picture might help you create your own pattern. Also here is a picture of the Brazos Jack rig. I have also attached the Brazos Jack Double Pommel Holster. It is already on this forum some place back around 2011. If you scroll down a few topics on the Patterns forum you will find his 1800's Pommel Bag/holster pattern as well. May not be exactly what you are looking for, however it may help. Revised Pommel Holster Patterns.pdf
  19. you don't say what yourproject is. The purpose of beveling the edges is to get a more rounded edge. The purpose of rounding the edge is actualy to giveyour project or product some protection. Squared edges will readily get beat up in use and may eventually become frayed looking. holsters, walets chechbooks etc are prone to edge contact a rounded edge has more surface area to spread impact it also more easily deflects impact. A squared edge has a smaller surface to take the impact and there for absorbs more impact in a specific area. Hopefuly that makes some sense. Try it make an item with a squared edge and a similar item that will see the same use after a time compare them. That is just my opinion however I have based it on my own experiences.
  20. I don't have a pattern however the studs you are refering to appear to be button studs
  21. John, I have copies of the original Rock Island Arsenal Drawings showing measurements and specifications for that holster as well as the double magazine carrier. It also shows the leg strap specifications and buckle. If you would like these PM me with your email and I will send them to you. Scott
  22. George I know you said you don't need a pattern, however I have a couple of patterns that show a couple of different ways to handle the straps in back. If you don't want the whole pattern I will atleeast send you the part that shows the attachment in back. If you want info on how the back attachments are done PM me with your email address. Scott
  23. Igor welcome aboard, everyone here is pretty friendly so don't worry. The forums are broken into topics so find a topic you like read the post make posts of your own. Feel free to ask questions and answer questions if you have helpful information. I think for the most part the rules are be respectful of others and have fun. If you are posting in the critique forum then you are asking for comments good and bad. If negative comments are made on your work it is usually made in the spiritof helping, so please take any comments in that spirit. We are all here to help and be helped. We are looking forward to seeing pictures of some of your work. Have fun and make new friends.
