  1. Stitch your holster Then wet the holster and skirt. When weted the stitched holster will be quite bendable. BEnd it until you canget it into the top slot then pull throught he bottom slot. Put the unloaded gun in the holster shape and let dry.
  2. It is my understanding that a pricking iron is primarily for marking the holes and not actualy making the holes. I use i diamond awl for making the holes.
  3. If it is a finished belt you may have a tough time stamping anything on it even if it is veg tanned.
  4. your question is not clear, however I think you are reffering to the fact that in one picture your stitch is fairly straight and in the other picture it is some what angled. What are you using to make your stitching holes?
  5. THe Adler 30-1 is called a Patcher it can do up to about 3/8" leather. This will give you some information on the machine http://www.ebay.com/...02116101/g.html shipping would be about 150.00 to 200.00+. If you do a search on leatherworker.net for adler 30-1 you may find some threads fothe machine. There was someone on here a while ago that had achaance to buy one for $350.00 http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=27580
  6. Right you are not sure how I got that link in there try this one. It is not a tutorial just the steps they take in block dying, however it gives you the basic idea. http://mysite.verizo...leatherbelt.htm
  7. It looks like it has been block dyed. Block dying you take a block of wood wrap in cloth dip in dye, wipe the cloth wrapped block acros the leather length wise this allows you to work the dye into the surface f the leather but not into the impressions. This link shows a good demonstration http://www.leatherburnishers.com/
  8. When and if you start getting some 1911 models in cocked and locked I will be doing some business with you.
  9. kpkpkp, if you need dremel burnishers or drill press burnishers Ed the Bearman and his son Beary make some great ones also Mauls. Great workmanship. http://www.leatherburnishers.com/
  10. Something along these lines (see picture). The channel could be painted or covered with leather. Kydex could also be used to form the channel and left natural or covered with leather. If you go for kydex and don't have the experience with or are not set up for kydex PM me and I can mold the channel for you. Scott
  11. Dwight, They look pretty darn good for the first ones. She should be very pleased with them.
  12. You don't say how large is large, 3"-4" is about the largest that I have run across. Conchos.com has some berry conchos that are three inch, also try buffalobrothers.net they have three inch conchos. circlekb.com has 3 and 4" conchos Timcocorporation.com has some in the 3" size Lazy Star Horse Company has some 4 1/2" crystal conchos but may not be appropriate for armor.
  13. I make my hat bands like a ranger belt size the biller and chape for the buckle set you want to use make your hat band as wide as you want. Attached is an example.
  14. Frank, I have a pretty good feel for what you are going through. My wifes father passed in 92 and two years later we had to put my wifes mother in a nursing home where she passed away. That left my wifes Down's syndrome (developmentaly disabled) sister alone, we could not bear to put her in a facility so we took her into our home she has lived with us for 18years. It has had it's ups and downs and has created it's share of stress but also joy in helping her. In November she fell and broke her hFemur right above th knee. They told us that she could not bear weight for 12 weeks and we would have to use a mechanical lift to tranfer from the bed to comode or wheel chair etc. So that meant that we had to rearange our furniture and move her bed out to the living room so that we had room for the devices we needed etc. We are now going through Physical Therapy with her and slowly getting her back to walking. It had an impact on my time in the shop. I had to take over one end of the dinning room table and move some of my stuff from the shop to the dinning table so i could do cutting and stitching etc. As she can't be left alone so if my wife has to go somewhere I have to stay home to wathc my sister in law but can still do some of the work i need to do. Hang in there I won't say it gets easier but you will find way's to deal with it. If you need help finding resources or learning what is out there to help you with your sister PM me. Also check your area for support groups. From time to time you will feel it is a great burden and it will be stressful. My wife and I have talked and if we had an opportunity to do it over again we would make the same decisicion we have no regereats for helping my sister in-law.
  15. I think you will have better luck if you try boarder. Also don't know what kind of projects you are using but if you go over to cascity.com forums leathershop and check the FAQ's how to you will find a thraed for boarders with a interesting veriety of boarders.
  16. That's kind of like asking me to choose between a Ferarri and a Lambroghini. I have tools from all three makers and the quality from all three makers are excelent. They each have offerings the others don't. COmpare prices and compare what stamps you want to what stamps are offered from each. I don't believe you will go wrong with any one of the three makers.
  17. Welcome from the wet side, Stanwood WA.
  18. Post picture and some idea of style he is looking for we should be able to get you going in the right direction. Also find out about where on his belt he likes to wear the holster.
  19. Is anyone making a dummy gun for the Ruger SR1911 Commander 4.25" Rings does not show one? Is the Colt Commander close enough to use?
  20. I make butt covers with recoil absorbers in them. What style are you looking at, how will it be fastened. Is this for shotgun or rifle. I put a pad of sorbothane and highdensity foam in side the butt cup. I take extremely wet leather and mold and shape cup that will cover the butt plate. If you need more help PM me with what you are trying to do and I will offer any tips I can. To make it fit properly you will need to have posession of the gun during construction. I make enough that I have either bought stocks or made seudo stocks for shaping. After re reading your [post i aamy have miss read it, are you looking to make a shoulder shield like in the last picture. If so I would use suede or rough out leather to give more grip against the butt of the gun and yes I would line with sorbothane and foam.
  21. both styles shown are commonly called pocket holsters just different designs. Look at Recluse pocket holsters and otheres they are all pocket holsters. However a wallet holster wraps the pistol as shown below.
  22. Thgis person is selling Tiger thread http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=47600&hl=%2Btiger+%2Bthread not cheap $10.00 for 20 meters and they include 2 004 harness needles.
  23. Like I said in my earlier post i think he was subcontracting you to make saddles for some one else. I believe that more after reading some of his emails to you. It cracks me up that he talks so specific about what he wants you to do and how you are supposed to do it. if he knows so much then why did he not make the saddles him self. The work of his that is in the photos shows me he does not know what he wants everybody to think he knmows. I know crap about making saddles but i know if i tried to do the work he did in those pictures it would look at lot more proffesional then that. I don't think you have to worry about him. The other thing is funny is like a lot of customershe wants to be on the phone with you all the time or constantly sends emails and gets upset when he can't reach you , however if you spend all your time on the phone with them then they want to know why it is taking so long to get their project done.
