I just tried several times to log onto the chat room the java symbol came up and went into "everthink" mode. Is it my machine? Or is Java being "stuborn" today? (Ps - I downloaded an new update to Java - it didn't help - it did it before and after the update)

thanks for the stories -- I seem to "know" you all a little better now While I don't have a Leather Shop - when we did dollhouse minis we went by the name Tiny Accents - cause we did the small things "to make your house a home" When I started selling "garage sale type stuff" in the SCA (my medieval group) I marked myself as Ashgrove's Dungeon Sale. (castles usually don't have garages, another friend uses AEdric's Attic - so we joke about haveing the whole castle covered from the attic to the dungeon - lame I know) But when a friend and I do SCA events with our Good Stuff we use Gryphon's Faire - cause the Barony we belong to is called Flaming Gryphon and the first name that we thought of for our shire was supposed to be Sundridge Faire - the stupit heralds didn't like that one so we ended up with Norborough. so if I was selling leather it would be under Gryphon's Faire (and it might come to that yet)

Star Wars Belt Buckle
Suze replied to K-Man's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
what char was this on - maybe one of the google-fu experts can find a better pic of it..... -
If yo don't think you can "Please" this man - tell him no another thing If he would bail on paying for the cover COULD you sell it to someone else? (like would it have HIS name or something on it that would make it impossiable to sell?) Or would it be just too strange to sell? If you could sell it elsewhere I think that I might give it a shot. If it was personlized in some way no I wouldn't do it.

Oh the joys of being a fiber geek on a leather forum I keep seeing this thread and keep thinking that it is this kind of whip braiding http://www.eithni.com/Whipcordingdemo.htm (also known as "combat braiding" by our members.....Ever get "thunked" by a pint size rolling pin?) Oh and this is usually done with two people tossing the bobbins back and forth.

I'm not so sure that it is a great idea - "Politics" (or any other contriversial subject) can get pretty heated pretty fast. and then you have name calling and bad karma running around, and then the "whispering campanes" get started. and with as much negitivity in the world today, with jobs being lost and businesses closeing -- Do we really want all that to "stain" the world of the leather family that has been built here? I vote no

Yeah tell me alll about it -- I work for the same company as Johanna's hubby 3.9% cut for me along with the "little things" that have ALWAYS been there to make life a little more "bearable" A paid Birthday day -- gone free drink at first break -- gone by the end of the year we will be going "paperless pay checks" bi-monthly, which means that we will prob have MORE taken out of them. and I think that with this cut we are at least 4 if not 5 years back in pay scale. {and I wou;n't count on that 25 year club thing this year either) Is your shop still open? I might need it to make ends meet

Looking for feed back and advice
Suze replied to CedarCreek's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Oh my Post dupllication nightmare..... If he wants that many "adjustments" to your work that will make it look like a less skilled person did it (I think I might feel a little different about it - if he had asked you to just "take the new off" of it with a LITTLE bit of distressing. But he is asking you to create junk) I would soooo be handing him back his guns and telling him to find someone ELSE to do it I for one as a craftsperson feel that to do something "sub-par" knowing that you can do better is a baddd thing. You are known by your work and anyone seeing that wouldn't even THINK about going to you for work. (and you know that he will be telling everyone WHO made this piece of .....well you know) my two cents -
gee thanks Trav - after looking at all the other first projects - I feel that mine is a bit "lacking" that blanket stich was not easy the second time around the bag (part of the reason that there is only one layer around the smaller part - the other, not enough thread) I called it frankenpurse because it has 3 different ends of thread in it and none of them really "matched" I used the heaviest one on the double running stich, because I got frustrated with an awl and just used a paper punch to put tiny hole in it. Johanna is not happy with the name.
-
http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=14875 it's in the show off section of this forum - not a website..... it's my first project and Johanna didn't have any leather laceing that was "good anymore" (it dry rotted) so I had to fall back and punt.

A LW business card challenge - deadline April 1st
Suze replied to Suze's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
did you get the one I sent you ?????? -
if you look up "frankenpurse" in the show off section - I used blanket stich on the outside and a double running stich on the small gusset. (which looks like a two needle stich but isn't) would think that if you would look up embroidry stiches and use the ones that are more straight line, you could find a lot of varity for your work look up "blackwork" it is a type of embrodry from the 15/1600's

all you have to do to the list is add --- and much more --- to it and that covers anything your little heart desires to make...... frankly I like lists like that on business cards - it reminds me just what they do. of course I get cards that the name they sell under has NO clue to what they do or sell "HEdwig's corner" or "Time Traveling Traders" are two that I can think of right off. (hedwigs is a collection of 'stuff" place --- TTT is a man that sells amber.) I think you are at the point of printing out your samples and seeing what they look like "on paper" I will be intrested in seeing your final copy. Just remember if you remove the list to recenter stuff.
-
by gorge - I think you've got it I like the one on the right with the funky lettering..... I say stop fussing and use this one.
-
I like the full name in the middle and on second look the foot on the oval makers mark doesn't look "right" But it does on the lettering. man I wish I could go in and tweak it and show you what is in my head general layout the one on the left font style for Dusty Chaps - the one on the right one on the left needs some corrections is spelling (Look whos talking! I can't spell my way out of a paper bag >grin<) I would take your name and forget centering it on the card and center it in the "white space" you have between the list and the chaps.... ( tad down and to the right - I think) you have blank area there also phone number and web site should be on the same level -- phone number is "up" a little. (and I hope you don't get mad at us for picking you design apart, I don't do it to be "mean")
-
ohhh -- I wonder what it would look like if he took out the "list of stuff" centered the "makers mark" and kept both graphics in but put the feet up on it and centered the whole mess?
-
I think it looks pretty good although I might do a couple of things a little different I think that I might rearange the two pictures and some of the words to look like the raised foot is being supported by something and maybe get rid of one of them - most likely on the left side move your makers oval under the right foot Well that's what I might do. I tend to make mine up to photocopy - so I don't get too fussy with color pics. (Oh and I use Print Shop) so take all this with a big old grain of salt ---- as words from a dabbler in the craft.

Will Waxed Thread Dye
Suze replied to JRB's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
and linen as a fiber is really hard to dye anyway. -
You guys really have to learn to "think outside the box" Our SCA group runs a festival kids booth -- on a KNOTTED shoestring (we couldn't even afford a new shoestring) and it is amazing what you can find if you open up your mind to the fact that just because it says it is for "this thing" doesn't mean you CAN'T use it for "that thing" (of course you are also talking to the person who turned a snack bag inside out and made "mylar" ballons for the dollhouse. and those "champane poppers" with the streamers inside - work well for crepe paper streamers too. Hey what can I say - someone challenged me that I couldn't find something)

have you looked at the site I posted they have them all..... and about your hosters -- go to odd lots or whatever and get cheap food baggies why buy boxes of 1000 when you only need 100? (or less)
