  1. Yes, that helps mostly with getting a nice edge. Not that I've got nice edges... but I hear it's possible...
  2. No idea. I'd like to find out, too. I've only used about eight kinds of horween. Haven't gotten around to Rockford yet.
  3. Really nice work. You've got a few stitching inconsistencies here and there, but you started with a difficult project, and you made it look great. Congratulations! I'm sure the next thing you make will look even better.
  4. You're right, David. It's just another area in which I need to pay attention and practice. Meanwhile... I have my cheat.
  5. Mine weren't that great, but I don't even have the excuse that they were the first thing I made. I spent eight months making things like pouches, bracelets, and books before I tried a wallet. I did these about 2 1/2 years ago. Then, unlike the rest of you, I decided wallets were too much of a pain, and am only just now learning how to do them properly.
  6. Good idea, Chris. I should be doing that. To solve the same problem, I have been using a square when I punch holes in the gusset. First, I punch the holes in the front and back, doing my best to make sure I punch the same number of holes. Then I cut the gusset long, and use a square to check every couple of inches to make sure I'm using the chisel evenly on both sides of the gusset. Once I've reached the same amount of holes on the front and back, I cut off the extra gusset length on both sides. So yes..... overly complicated, compared to what David and Chris are saying. But I don't have to worry about inconsistent stitching on the back.
  7. Sweet, thanks for the info. I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for horse Dublin. It makes a killer wallet back. I've also not tried Rockford, yet.
  8. Very nice and clean. Dublin is my favorite. I didn't realize it came in horse-hide strips, though. I thought Dublin was cowhide/veg tanned, and horse-hide strips were chromexcel. But I also find it difficult to find much information about the different Horween leathers until you accidentally find them for sale somewhere.
  9. Ni ce! Yes, I think I like the top/zipper on the second bag, better.
  10. Chris, both of them are beautiful. What about a side view of the gusset on both bags? I like the pocket and the strap attachment better on the first one, but that's a matter of preference.
  11. Nice braiding. I got some alligator scraps, and I have NO IDEA how to use them. They are so ridgey.
  12. Very nice, I especially liked the handbag. I look forward to seeing what you make in the future.
  13. I ordered a couple of hides from them on Tuesday. They're always great.
  14. Cool, both cases are sweet. Coaxing a leather sewing machine seems to be an art all in itself.
  15. Cool. I'd like to see how that actually works when you're wearing it. Did you sew it by hand?
  16. That's sweet! I've always wanted to marble paper (someday), it hadn't occurred to me that it was possible to marble leather.
