Thanks Cattleman, I’ve got a holster I’m going to try it on soon, I’m looking forward to trying it again and getting some good results
-
Thanks Hags, I was on the fence with it too that’s why I never used it, but just recently I was thinking there’s got to be a way to make the stamping pop a little more and after reading up about antiquing and watching some YouTube videos about how to properly apply it I thought I’d try it. It seems like I pulled it off ok and it sealed up good so I’ll keep on trying it where it seems applicable.

That handle material is called Raffir, it's an epoxy based resin with what the manufacturer says are plant fibers inside. it kind of looks like corn husks to me. I like it, it's some really different stuff for sure. I use black G10 liners between it and the tang to highlight the yellow in it. Thanks rleather!

Thanks, the Damascus steel is from Brad Vice, Alabama Damascus and the other knife is CPM154 stainless. the stamp came from Sergey, yea have to be selective due to the price but they really stamp nice and he has some patterns you can't find anywhere else. Thanks Marshall, I actually wish I started using it on some things a long time ago, I'm sure I'll be using it more often now on certain pieces.

Here's a couple of standard style knife sheaths I make. this is actually the first time I ever used antique. I used a base coat of Fiebing's tan kote, then Fiebings light brown antique paste then another coat of tan kote, the next day I put on one light coat of resolene. I think they came out ok for my first try with this stuff and am pretty happy with the finished results so far. Thanks for looking!

I got a CB4500 a year or so ago and ran a lot of practice leather thru it before trying to make anything decent, you just have to get to know your machine. once you learn the ins and outs of that machine you'll love it, just keep practicing on scrap. One thing I learnt was to watch out where you place the belt loops, you don't want that running under the foot when your stitching the side of the sheath. nice folder there!

I think for large pieces air brushes don't give enough penetration, or I should say depth unless you spray it 100 times. at least for me when I first started using an air brush on leather it seemed to me like a light scratch exposed un-dyed leather. They are great for fading, I only use mine anymore for doing a darker fade from the edge of the piece inwards over lighter dyed work piece.

When I first got one I completely took it apart after using it and clean it, but more often then not it was frustrating getting it back together. now I just run denatured alcohol thru it, a lot, and ALL thru it, everywhere I can get it . And I always shoot some cardboard before putting it to real use to make sure the air pressure is about right.

Lard definitely goes rancid.I have a corn feeder out in the woods for deer and squirrel's were climbing up and nawing at the feeder, first I smeared the legs with bearing grease, that worked for the coons but not the squirrels. then I top coated that with vasoline, they still managed to get up there. then I smeared lard on them, that didn't work either. then I put bird spike ribbons on them, that slowed them down but a few use them like a stairway. now, two weeks later when I walk up to it I can smell the lard. it's gone rancid for sure.

Very nice, it hit 29 degrees in my part of Florida the other morning...all I can say is, I'd rather sweat than freeze. -
Happy new year to all you fine folks!

Those look great, where’d you get that big Ruger logo stamp? That basket weave stamping looks perfect. -
I gotcha, nothing wrong with that in the world we live in today.
-
Nice work but who made it? the makers name has been photo cropped out.

Merry Christmas! and I hope everyone has a great new year ahead!

Thanks folks!

I like it, nice color and nice contrast. -
Just finished this fillet knife sheath, Herman Oak undyed natural finish. I used a mules foot stamp to kind of simulate fish scales. Thanks for looking!

Can’t you stitch in reverse two stitches to the metal loop then switch to forward, stitch however long you want, then reverse again for a couple stitches? Maybe I’m not sure what your asking.

Line 20 Snaps hard to open and close
bladegrinder replied to rmcninch108's topic in How Do I Do That?
You might be deforming the inside of the female part by setting the post to firmly. I set mine with the hammer anvil method and end up doing that sometimes, also your post might be to long, for thinner leathers I shorten my post on a belt sander, takes some finesse put I try to get each one the correct length for the leather their going on. -
