Make stiching holes with a chisel for a collar
cradom replied to Abelc's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
Things like this are mostly symbolism. Wearing a 2 inch collar signifies being "owned" by someone. Don't want to damage your pet/slave/partner/whatever. -
Watch Adam-12 sometime, they use those. I had never seen them before.

The Great Wave off Kanagawa
cradom replied to datdraku's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Are there any dividers or pockets inside? I'd like to make one similar for the wife. -
I don't use the programs on those clip art CDs. Sometimes you can get them directly by digging into the folders or turning on 'show hidden files' in explorer and find them that way. No guarantee that'll work but sometimes it does. I've found them in .tga and .jpg formats, among others. There are programs that will convert from one format to another.

Glad I could help Sometimes doing a Google Image search for line art or clip art can get some good stuff too.

I love the pea pod zipper pulls/key fobs. Fantastic work.

I may be wrong but, I never burnish edge paint. Dye yes, but not paint. Takes the paint off in my experience.

Maybe some way to attach that disk to a finger so you don't have to pick it up every stitch...? Looks like a good thing to have.

Take it all the way to the edge. Leaving it shy of the edge wont let the leather edges stick together and will show the line.

Are the two pieces glued? Contact cement helps keep the edges together.

adjustable groove compass Adjustable Groove Compass
cradom replied to Flutist's topic in How Do I Do That?
That isn't meant to pivot, as in making a circle. That is an adjustable width creaser, not really a compass. -

Springfield sells a double with one straight edge for about $50. It's not the best leather in the world but it's great for belts. I'd put it at about a C grade.

Just try not to start any leather fires LOL. Ought to do the trick.

First try at a full flap holster
cradom replied to Jake907's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I wish I'd used a stud on mine instead of that cheap Tandy snap. Got to change that. That's a good looking, functional holster.- 32 replies

I think they look terrific. One question: is it supposed to have this? Is that a seam or something? I saw them on the tan one too.

If it was upholstery, it's called Diamond Tufting or Diamond Pointing. Used a lot in hot rods and such. Don't know if when used in leather if it would be called the same.

Dye your edge before burnishing. When you burnish you make it much harder for dye to soak into the leather, therefore it drips down the front (or back) and ruins things. Painting edges is different. You're using a paint which sticks to the leather rather than soaking in.

Cowboy boots make GREAT holsters!
cradom replied to MoRoadglide11's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Very nice work. Just curious, how do you keep the design stitching from fraying on the edges after its cut?
