Purse Help!
Tina replied to immiketoo's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I would say: Don't limit yourself to the "Show of" section, ALL old purse pictures from this section ends up in: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showforum=67 this forum. "Show of" is just a temporay forum for newer topics :-) -
Your current logo is the best, clear and easy for the eye to "read" ... (I do love the tattoo too, but as a tattoo )
-
Many Thanks Marlon :-)

Me too would like to know...I have always used the Jet black color (without any problems)...What's "special black" anyone?
-
Awesome work you have there Marlon, and in just 4-5 hours, Well done :-) I would have totally lost myself in that round basket weave, I wish I knew the secret "how too" make it look that good *S*

You'll always have a place to lay your head on here, it would be great to meet up again :-)

This is the reason I always say, get some diluter to go with them, they're really pigments strong. In the picture I have taken the dye directly out of the bottle and then started to use alcohol/spirit to dilute the dye. This is the resault with light rose (and rose) plus the light blue colors.

Nowdays I only use my angeled blade to everything, could it be that it's on my Leather Wrangler knife??? I can work my combination small barrel/angeled blade almost anyway I want, sky's the limit :-) -
Carving Font - Especially Small & Detailed
Tina replied to bissetdesign's topic in How Do I Do That?
Yes to your question, it is possible to carve them. It will be fiddely and my best advice will be to use an angled blad on your swivelknife. That blad lets you take curbs and corners much smaller and easier. Make sure you have a set of small bevelers, you'll need them :-) -

What The Color?
Tina replied to Zigmars's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
To me it looks like the old Tandy antiquing in color "Tan" (?) -
And Cheryl, if you go down south from Knut (like 8-900 miles or so) I'll always have a couch to sleep on and a leather shop to visit :-)
-
Tina here :-) So far I only use Angelus when it comes to dye and finishers. The dye is very pigment strong so you need some alcohol/spirit to dilute them with. You can mix as you like and come up with your own colors. Turtlefeathers is the place I get my dyes and finishers from every time we go over to the US...They have the bigger bottles I like and are qick to ship out orders :-)

I use this one ( http://www.misterart...king-fluid.html ) and it's removable from veg.tan leather. I use it with my Angelus spirit dyes. Just paint it on to the leather with a brush that fits the job at hand. I clean the brushes with white spirit.

Outstanding work as usual...It's Gorgeous

Yes, Cova colors is acrylllic paint for almost $5 a 1.5oz bottle (I hope I'm not wrong here). There's a huge market with paint that can be used, example Plaid has a line of 'Folkart' acryllic paint that is way better then you might think for around $1,99 2oz bottles or @2.99 for the metallic line. I have used these a lot, I personally only use white/black and red at occasions and the metallic line, they all seams to hold upp just fine for the job even on a fairly long time basis, I have not done leatherwork long enough to have decades of experiences yet :-) Then there's Angelus leather paint too...Very nice and pigment strong acryllic paint made for leather, 1oz $2 and 4oz $5 at turtlefeathers.net for example.
-
Use some good quallity acryllic paint, it works like a charm and no need for Cova colors :-)
-
I'm a fan, Great work The overall look is awsome but I love the small details. Instead of just seeds inside the flover there's...more flowers:-) I also love the extra leathercord along the strap and you really succeeded with the overall color schemes.

Leather Dye
Tina replied to longtooth's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Angelus spirit dyes any day of the week. The range of colors is great and no waterstain Eco-flow (sorry, just my honest opinion) can compete with it's vidid beautiful colors , The dye even comes in big 1 pint bottles at this place (I don't know them, just been a happy customer) : http://turtlefeather...ngelus/dye.html -
What's The Best Tool For Tooling, Mall Or Mallet, What Weight?
Tina replied to paprhangr's topic in Leather Tools
I second the Bearman mauls I don't remeber exactly the weights (and no American style scale in the neighborhood) but one is around 10 oz, and the other around 16-18oz. Working with the right tools makes everything easier, if the are beautiful too it makes you feel like a queen (king) and indestructible *LOL*. I have a huge wooden maul too for heavy makers mark stamping/3D stamps and similar around 3+ pounds (?)
