  1. This old sailor says thank you . . . and good job. May God bless, Dwight
  2. If I am understanding . . . and looking at it correctly . . . you can forget creasing the leather for that top part of the box cover. You will continue your process for the magnets. 1. For the top . . . you make a box . . . exactly the size of the top of your card holder. 2. You then make a cover for that box that is the same dimension as the top of your card holder . . . PLUS the thickness of the leather used on the inner cover piece. Wet your leather really good . . . put it over the box and force the cover down over it . . . leave it for about 20 minutes . . . gently pull them apart . . . lay your leather out to dry some place where it is not too hot . . . let it dry out slowly . . . this will be the inside piece 3. Then you make a box that is the dimension of your card holder . . . PLUS the thickness of the inner leather piece 4. Then you make a cover for it that is the dimension of # 3 . . . plus the thickness of the second leather piece Wet your leather really good . . . put it over this box . . . force the cover down over it . . . leave it for about 20 minutes . . . gently pull them apart . . . lay your leather out to dry some place where it is not too hot . . . let it dry out slowly . . . this will be the outside piece. 5. Then take super glue to your magnets . . . glue them in place in the inner piece of leather. Put your leather "inner top" on the first box . . . smear it real good with Elmer's white carpenter glue . . . do the same to the inside of the "outer top" piece . . . and slide them together . . . take pieces of thin wood you have made exactly for this box . . . the outside dimension of the leather put together . . . put a piece of wood on each side . . . hold them in place with some rubber bands . . . lay a block of wood on the top of it . . . put a brick on the piece of wood . . . and go do something for 24 hours. When you come back . . . you will have a very nice box. You probably will want to cut the dimension of the outside piece about as exact as possible . . . the inside piece a little big. Then when all is dry . . . you can fit a block of wood inside the cover and use a razor knife to trim the inside . . . and the top should then be ready for assembly. May God bless, Dwight
  3. I'm going to have to go against the grain here . . . that leather is 1/4 of an inch thick . . . which in my opinion is not thin leather. Bending it over to go into a buckle while it is dry can cause the front to crack . . . and then you are in deep doo doo . . . might as well toss the collar if the front face of the leather cracks in the bend where the buckle goes. For all my belts and stuff like that . . . I do not bend it until I dye it . . . it is really wet then and will bend without any possibility of cracking. Just my way of doing things that prevents problems down the road . . . and 1/4 inch leather on a dog collar will not stretch enough to make any kind of difference . . . so just pass up any worry about it stretching. May God bless, Dwight
  4. I actually have one here at the house . . . it was my mom's . . . and may have belonged to my grandmother . . . I don't know for sure. It only has one drawer on each side . . . and the center drawer for all the attachments is still there . . . attachments gone . . . but their home stayed. I learned to sew on the thing . . . mom gave it to me after she got her electric machine . . . I put an aftermarket motor on it . . . sewed a bunch of stuff with it. It's going to my niece . . . I'm 78 . . . starting to part things out so I make sure someone who will care for it . . . gets it. She's a sweetheart . . . just got engaged . . . Anyway . . . have fun with your invention . . . looks like a lot of fun to be had there. My next tool I'll be making will probably be a 60 inch sheet metal brake. May God bless, Dwight
  5. If we was close enough . . . I'd offer to make you darn near any kind of table you wanted for that invention of yours . . . in trade for the Singer. May God bless, Dwight
  6. That's a cool looking gizmo . . . May God bless, Dwight
  7. I think most of the folks here are more than willing to "help out" with a question . . . and I'm not really sure any that I run with have a "holier than thou" attitude . . . or if they do . . . I haven't yet found it. But again . . . let us help you . . . holler when you have a question . . . we'll see what we can conjure up for you. May God bless, Dwight
  8. Hmm . . . I got two junk machines out in the garage . . . may look into that idea May God bless, Dwight
  9. I got two . . . (I think) . . . Whatcha doin with one if you had it? May God bless, Dwight
  10. OK . . . got my curiosity up . . . What is the diameter of that prayer box ? I'm thinking of some "maybe" Christmas gifts . . . May God bless, Dwight
  11. Here you are Frodo . . . I thought it would work May God bless, Dwight
  12. I would probably leave a note on the kitchen stove "Be back soon" . . . go to the lumber yard . . . buy replacement flooring . . . and get on the phone finding someone to replace it . . . or get the chop saw and saw horses out. That would be my plan . . . although you might try some gasoline . . . a very little bit of it . . . but it might do the trick. May God bless, Dwight
  13. TomE and I walk down the same street on this. The blotches somehow are associated with needing an application of neatsfoot oil . . . and that will eliminate about 99% of that blotchy stuff. . . AND . . . it can help with the wrinkles. But if you want to somehow get to zero defects in the product . . . you need to give up on leather . . . go to vinyl . . . leather will always have little defects here and there . . . and most can be worked around so the customer never notices it . . . but that is YOUR part of what has to be done. A really thorough inspection of the leather to be used will take care of most of that. May God bless, Dwight
  14. Looks good . . . I'm too conservative to ever wear that . . . but there are customers who would stand in line for one like it. And I'm sure if the sewing machine would do that on sport coat material . . . it would do it on light weight leather. May God bless, Dwight
  15. I did have one question though . . . where is the "shoulder" part of the holster that was in the title of the post?? May God bless, Dwight
  16. Stunning is my first thought . . . beautiful is my second . . . I am also partial to the contrasting stitching . . . something I do as much as I can on the projects I do. My only detrimental comment would be the suicide strap . . . a personal note is I hate em . . . do my best to talk the new owner into a thumb break But the strap does look good on it . . . And I really like the mottle on the holster body itself May God bless, Dwight
  17. I gave up on pig skin a long time ago . . . use veg tan for the liner . . . cut both pieces from the same pattern . . . glue em both together with contact cement . . . then sand all the edges with a belt sander . . . bevel both edges . . . burnish it all . . . Best way I have found to do em . . . May God bless, Dwight
  18. Thank you for the information . . .

Really . . . I'm just interested in engraving wood and leather . . . if it would use patterns to cut out blanks for leather projects . . . yeah . . . I could go for that too.

It's proposed job work though would be simple decoration.  I'm thinking of Bible Covers . . . belts . . . holsters . . . with absolute personal type decoration.

I did a black belt with purple butterflies on it for a niece who made me promise to never do another one for anyone else.  Been hanging onto that promise.

    But anyway . . . I'll check those guys out . . . thanks again.

BTW . . . whereabout in KY?  My first home as a squalling crib rat was in Carter Co . . . near Olive Hill.

    May God bless,

    Dwight

      I'm in Frankfort -

I'll try to post a pic of some of the leather stuff I've done. Most of it's on my phone and I use a PC for forums such as this.

  19. On ebay there seems to be a couple of interesting laser machines for about 225 bucks. The supposedly engrave stone, metal, wood, leather, etc. Some have adjustable heads . . . some don't. Some seem to advertse 40 watts while another in the same price range is only 0.5 watts. I want to get one . . . but don't want if possible to wind up with a white elephant . . . been down that road too many times. Any upfront advice would be greatly appreciated. May God bless, Dwight
  20. Looks like a Vietnam jungle jacket with a belt . . . May God bless, Dwight
  21. Young fellow wants a Bible Cover with outside zipper . . . Have never done one like that . . . Anyone got a bushel of pointers to share? Would sure make things a lot easier I'm sure. May God bless, Dwight
  22. Rifle shooters sometimes need a cheek rest for their rifles if using a scope. I was asked how I did it . . . and it does not lend itself well to a dissertation on the subject. So I made a video . . . thought I'd share it here for those interested. May God bless, Dwight https://youtu.be/ItQRqpzQUWA
  23. I put a servo motor on a Singer 155 a number of years ago . . . then sold it as it was not what I needed at the time. Loved sewing with it though. My Cowboy 4500 has a servo . . . came out of Toledo Sales . . . one of the advertisers here . . . he'll do you right . . . never had a problem dealing with them. May God bless, Dwight
