1911 Duty Rig
battlemunky replied to Bayou Bengal's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Beautiful work! -
I got a Craftool belt tool thingy and my problems went away. Line it up with the end and make sure it is centered and Bob's your uncle! You can use it for consistent spacing as well as an end cutter. Item #3604-04 on Tandy.

I really like your flowers and how they almost wilt. That color contrast is really nice! -
Yet another amazing piece of work @ABHandmade. My life is better having seen this

Sometimes antique is just finicky but with practice you can get to anticipate some of the issues. Did you go at it with paper towels directly or did you use a block or what?

That's got to be the coolest thing I've seen today. Maybe if you get a chance you could do a tutorial on here.

I spoke incorrectly above, it is Royal Blue, not Navy Blue on the little bag.

Also, I'm getting Angelus blue jean colored dye next week (supposed to be here between the 17th and 20th). When it arrives, I'll put some on some veg tan and post it for reference.

I've used Fiebings turquoise before and it is quite a light blue. You may want to get a bottle and see how it does for you. You could probably start there and thin it until you are happy. This sheath pic is unthinned turquoise. The pic of the little bag is Fiebings navy blue, it is really dark.

^^^^ For a small cost, that wallet pack from Nigel is a launch pad for ingenuity. -

Second saddle, second place!
battlemunky replied to Rolandranch's topic in Saddle & Tack Maker Gallery
You are killin' it Ryan, as always! Watching you go big and excel is quite fun. I wish I had your talent, dude. The first place saddle must've been utterly amazing. -
Actually, Latigo leather is nearly how I got introduced to working leather. I needed a strop for a straight razor and found that all the good ones for sale are made from latigo. Being prohibitively expensive, I got to looking at making my own and found that Tandy had some and ended up buying some other stuff and made my own strop. Long story shortened a bit, it can be argued that Latigo IS strop material. But then, the argument can be made that shell cordovan ($$$$$) is as well.

That color is about perfect. How'd you get it? -
Knife sheath build
battlemunky replied to Vikefan's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
That looks great @Vikefan! I really like the semi-scout carry and love the idea of cross drawing it. Cool handle on the knife as well. -
Beginner work
battlemunky replied to axlf33's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I think that is pretty fine work, especially being new at it. -
I got nothing to add really so I'll just welcome you from the shadows :-) Keep up the good work!

I really like that. Sweet honey color.

Tote bag
battlemunky replied to Dunluce's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Too late to sell her to the gypsies? J/K! What a beautiful bag! Did you do the dye work on the green or did it come dyed? I like the stippled look and someone had a question about how it is done in a different thread, so if you did it, please share how! -
I'm thinking a close pore sponge rung out nearly dry then blotted onto the leather. Just a guess. I rather like that effect too.
