  1. I love those and the coaster looks great with that "I made these tools" flair to it. I'm totally gonna make some of my own tools one of these days. The hex has been on my list for a bit, I just need to get up and do it.
  2. Hello and welcome! Feel free to post pictures! We'd love to see your work
  3. Looks pretty good!
  4. Switch to water or gum trag or beeswax? Tons of other stuff to burnish with aside from saddle soap.
  5. That is a very nice holster and I agree with everyone else, those grips look great, and then you combine the whole package and you have some excellence. Super nice combo even before the rose petal tips! I like it all quite a bit.
  6. Lol, I've GOT to take one of those classes! That looks really well done. Welcome to the forum.
  7. Very nice @YinTx. A dopp kit is on my list and I'm hoping it turns out as nice as that. I'll use some 3/4 oz HO for the baggy parts and for the sides I will likely use the 8/9 oz Craftman Oak I got from Tandy when it was cheap, if I tool it.
  8. Me likey! It sure would be nice to see that knife though
  9. God luck and good job. I have just gotten my first few commissions and I WAYYYYY undersold myself. I won't be doing it again. I turned out some pretty stellar work, imo, and let it go for almost what I had in it in materials Still being new, I almost don't feel worthy to ask more for it, so I cheated myself but my customer got a wallet that'll last him a good 10 years or more. Hopefully it'll come back in referrals? Please let us know how it goes and post lots of pics along the way. Tack/harnesses intimidate the heck out of me and I'd appreciate it immensely to see a build as it's happening.
  10. I really like your style too. It has a primitive look about it. Not sure if the hieroglyphs make me lean that way but I really like it. They look flawlessly executed aside from aesthetics.
  11. Looks pretty good! I just tried some bison and didn't really care for it. I need to try some other stuff before I consider myself a veg-cow only kinda guy.
  12. Thanks for sharing!
  13. My only critique is that I need to work harder. A LOT harder. Another super clean and well made piece of work Nate, or 5R
  14. Really nice bit of work there @paulamoose!
  15. That looks really nice! How do you do the alternating color stitching? Well, I know you use two different threads of different colors but how do you hide the knot and do you backstitch or something? I tried it the other day and couldn't figure out how to start it without it going to hell on me.
  16. Hey @immiketoo, how'd this turn out and is it available anywhere for general viewing?
  17. Your color blending on the dye job looks really good and even and the dog looks good too. Stitching looks good; are you saddle stitching or using a machine? I'd also like to see what you did with the inside.
  18. Humor added @bullmoosepaddles! Thanks for the compliment!
  19. Regarding mallets @taketothetrees, I only have rawhide and have a large and a small. I use the small (12 oz I think) for most tooling work and the large (16 oz) for those "one hit" type stamps and for setting ez rivets and snaps. I also have a 24 oz ball peen hammer for brad rivets. There are some great youtube videos on hammer vs. mallet. vs. maul. Each has it's own pros and cons and there is a ton of subjectivity so like thread, it is a "feel" thing and you don't really know which you like until you try some and on some of these items, the admission price can be a bit prohibitive. I'd love to have a Barry King round maul but I don't know if I'm ready to have a really pretty $70 bill sitting on my bench not being used, so I haven't sprung for one just yet.
  20. @LederRudi One of these days I'm going to try one of those shave kits as well but I'm going to reduce it down a good bit, that thing is huge as it is. My son is in the Navy and could probably use a cut down version. Not a ton of space on submarines. Thanks as well on the coloring, my eye for the aesthetic isn't what I'd like it to be. Cutting the slots was nerve racking, I was able to hide a little overcut with some aggressive edging and burnishing even. Thanks @ScoobyNewbie! They call it a pancake sheath, I believe anyhow, because it is two pieces of leather stacked on top of one another like pancakes. If you google pancake holster you'll see a lof of those as well and they are all of similar build, so I always assumed that is why they are called pancake style. I edited my one post with pics for you @plinkercases. That knife used to have a pocket clip but it got hung on my chair and bent out of shape so I was pocket carrying it for the last few years. It holds an edge and sharpens pretty easily so it has stayed. Thanks @bikermutt07!
