  1. Hi folks, looking for a little help with my White Tiger thread. I have been using .8 mm Tiger thread for a while now and am super happy with the quality and ease of use. The only gripe I have is with the white. It seems to lose it's color and get kin of opaque when stitched in. It's not dye transfer as I've tried it on a pouch that I wasn't going to dye. It's not really a deal breaker but I wish it would stay whiter because I tend to use contrasting color thread on almost everything I do. Anyway I was wondering if this is just how tiger thread is or maybe there's another brand whose white stays white. Thanks in advance for any help.
  2. That is one fine looking sheath. It's great to see the difference.
  3. I have never made a gun belt myself. But I have been carrying concealed for almost 40 years and I don't think any stiffener is really required. I have a double layered Desantis belt that is probably 25 years old and is still as strong as the day I bought it. It carried a full sized 1911, 2 magazines, and a small flashlight for the first 22 years of it's life. Unless you have a customer request it I would not bother with stiffeners. Or you could offer it as an option.
  4. Quick question for you, when you have them for sale do you advertise them here on leatherworker? I ask because I would definitely be interested in buying one from you.
  5. That's a nice looking holster. I'm sure that will be a good seller for you.
  6. That's a nice looking holster. Very impressive how "clean" it looks.
  7. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, don't take the advice to cut down a full size Henry rifle. If you do that you are making a short barreled rifle. Doing so without the proper federal permit is a FELONY. You sure don't want that kind of headache.
  8. Thanks for the tip, I just got 6 books I've been eyeballing.
  9. Thanks for being the first to post on this. I have been quite curious about it and it's nice to hear good things.
  10. As a former Marine, I can tell you I would be so happy to receive a gift like that. Absolutely great. BTW tell your friend that he is about to experience the toughest, most rewarding portion of his life.
  11. I love to see someone doing western holsters with something other than flowers.
  12. Sorry about that. Once I saw that there were pictures my reading comprehension just kind of went away.
  13. That turned out really great. I love the "distressed" look of the leather, could you share the source please?
  14. That looks really good. It will make a great accent for whatever you put it on.
  15. Very nice work. I love the dopp kit , is the distressed looking leather the kudu?
  16. Thank you. That is pretty much what I figured. I don't mind spending a little time polishing or sharpening, I just don't want to waste my money on something that is going to break with normal usage.
  17. Hi folks. Just looking to see if anyone has some info on the Weaver brand stitching chisels. I got an email saying they are back in stock and when I saw the prices ( around 20$ a set ) I was quite curious. I read the reviews on their site and all but one was positive. I would like to get multiple sets so that I would be set for different stich patterns and this seems like a reasonably priced way to go. If anyone has used them I would appreciate the feedback. Thanks all.
  18. I have to agree with everyone else, that looks great. The dark , light contrast really makes it pop.
  19. I tried some just because I had a bunch left over after a project that just used the outer sheath. To keep the strands under control I melted the ends and mashed them to a point. It worked fine but it was a little fat for what I was using it on and it only comes in white. I think you should give it a try on some scrap and see if you like it.
  20. That looks fantastic. I can't wait for the tutorial.
  21. To get really slick edges requires sanding. Depending on the individual piece of leather I may have to sand as fine as 800 grit. I will usually start at 150, go to 300, then to 600grit. The occasional piece of leather will require 800 but in my experience 600 is enough. I also find power burnishing to give a smoother finish than by hand. I gave up using water for burnishing because it just didn't seem to work as well as gum trag.
  22. Greetings and Merry Christmas. Your story sounds pretty much like mine as far as getting started. You have come to the right place for instruction and feedback. This forum has some of the most helpful and friendly people you will find anywhere. Welcome and enjoy. BTW what part of Colorado are you in? I'm in Austin over in Delta county.
  23. THANK YOU!!!!! I am glad to finally see someone carrying a glock in something besides kydex. Great looking rig by the way.
  24. Thanks for the replies. You have given me several options that all seem to have a lot of merit.
  25. Thank you for taking the time to answer. I also have access to metal banding material at work and was wondering if that wouldn't be another one to try. It's already painted, easy to cut, and fairly stiff.
