  4. You set the stitch length on the right lever and then when you adjust the lest needle it restricts the stitch length needle to that size when either in forward or reverse
  5. Three wires in make it three phase to my reckoning plus 380 volt may be able to get the price down as the market may be a lot smaller for a three phase machine
  6. I though old machines used Cork not leather for the clutch
  7. I don't know the answer, but it has given it a nice aged look
  8. I would guess that most US leather companies would cut your straps to width and length for you just contact the ones on the heading As a firefighter Tandy offer reduced rates you just need to register first I would imagine you need the straps to break in a emergency it you get hung up on something , if so maybe a lighter weight leather 7-8 or 8-9 ounce
  9. Try https://www.hatsandcaps.co.uk/hat-size-chart-asize_chart/
  10. They also closed the second one in the UK so only one now
  11. Trouble is that in this modern e-commerce day, the competition has moved with the time and make smaller more reasonable profit percentages on their goods whilst Tandy still live in the past watching slowly declining customer base apart from last resort buyers especially for the higher priced items like machines Being a Elite customer by being ex service is nice but it must insult the non elite to have to pay a higher price for the same item, I cannot think of any other business using the same tactics. Maybe just the American way
  12. What size needle are you using with the 92 thread
  13. Resolene and Eco flow sheen are two sealants, mink and NFO lubricate the leather but don't seal it
  14. As I stated I don't want one, just interested as to why such a simple design disappeared and its history
  15. Read the small part about the cub on another post yesterday, and interested if anyone had the full story as it seems came and went years ago but for many country folk it could have been a handy machine but presumably very low sales potential at that price (I think someone quoted near $1400 So anyone know the full story, not that i am looking to buy one, just a nosey old sod
  16. I would guess they would be very very expensive as a lot of work in them
  17. But what is the power for starting which is far more interesting. as with all machines once up and running its easy but getting that first stitch uses much more energy
  18. How about soaking in sea water for 2 days then hanging up to dry for a week in any desert you like, maybe two weeks will be required. Guaranteed to get the same effect
  19. Yesterday the first time in 10 days since i got it, I managed to get a 9 point level print with each measuring 2 mm and i was chuffed until today, when my order for the new ender 3 ultra glass surface arrived, and time to start again, still all part of life's rich tapestry
  20. I guess there is always room for another viewpoint , and yours may be a great one if new people will find it first, myself it took me a few months to find this forum but only a few min to find youtube on the subject and Tandy adverts But good luck with the project all information is useful
  21. Hi Thanks for the info, the names look great I have just signed up for Fusion 360 which is free for the full version as a hobby person. far exceeds the other software in ease of use and selection of tools, there is a handy new book "Fusion 360 for makers"by Lynda Sloan Cline, it is designed for 3D printers with good talk through projects One thing i have found out about my printer is the time taken to get the pad to fully hot, it shows the heat at correct but when you try a print it fails in some places, but if you then clean that off and immediately start again its all ok, i guess the sensor is in one position and it takes more time to spread evenly over the whole pad Can you say what the difference is between PLA and PLA+, at present just using a cheap PLA and getting good results after hours and hours of leveling, apart from the above what else do you make Are your stamps made with straight edges to the letters or do they widen towards the base i.e. triangular shape rather than rectangular Bit surprised that not many using this part of the forum Chris
  22. Sorry I think you are over stating the problem or even if there is a problem at all, there is so much basic information around for the beginner to use be it books or from stores like Tandy who have fantastic help video's and notes, just like anyone can spend under £50 and buy a leather kit of assorted parts on ebay to trial the hobby at low cost That is all without including the fantastic help given by members of the Leather workers forum
  23. I am 72 and consider myself quite young, so that old 45K is really just a teenager, but for sure out lasted many 1980 era machines and probably running as smooth as when it was made How come that sewing machines at 100 still work perfectly , Old steam engines nearly as good yet car and bike engines only last in general a few years and need maintance quite often at great expense
  24. What do Levis jeans use for their patch, I would guess printed or hot stamped chrome leather ps i have not worn jeans for many many years so maybe they have changed and no longer have the leather patch Yours respectfully silly old git
