  1. I can tool. And color. And sew. But posting to point out that depending how "custom" it is, might want to work with someone relatively local.. which for the LW folk is NEVADA. So if you're in the area and have the SKILL and the ABILITY and the TOOLS and the TIME ...
  2. I'm not trying to talk you in to or out of anything. Get the machine you think you should get. I'm not the sewing machine guy by ANYBODY'S standard. But I know machinery a bit, and as a rule you want to run them FAR SHORT of "capacity".. an analogy that may be useful (or not - whatever): I bought this car. Speedo goes up to 130. Am I going to drive 120 ? - NO. Will I drive 100? Probably not. Did the auto maker, dealer, salesman, DOT..... anybody think that I bought this car to drive 100+, or that I should? Uh.. no. So WHY get a car that will (theoretically) do 130? So that when I drive 70 I'm running the machine at [ again, theory ] 50-60% of it's capacity. Running it at full on "what it's capable of" will burn it up quickly. Same goes for most equipment Flip the coin -- I don't see any sense in buying a porsche to go to the grocery store. Sure, it'll git ya there, but you spend far more than what was necessary. So somewhere between there, ask yourself what size thread you want to sew with (if that matters to you). Does the needle size matter? 135-17 needles WILL go through the leather, if that's your question. But I wonder if it has the juice to pull a stitch tight thru that Since you list location as "ohio", if it was me I'd call Bob and ask what he has and what he thinks. He might have something you can SEE RUNNING and decide if that works for you? Maybe ask Bob if that '18' isnt a Consew 206 with a paint job? I had a 206, and it ran great - but I would NOT use it to sew belts made of veg tanned leather.
  3. I'd get something a bit heavier. 3/8" is about 24 ounce leather.
  4. I think that prong points UP, easier on the horse's cheek that way 100 years ago (-ish) we made about a JILLION belts, all basketweave and black and VELCRO instead of a buckle. One teh boys worked at the local prison, got tired of taking his belt off and on every time he went to or left work (metal detector both ways). Soon as he went through without taking his belt off, 50 more guys wanted one like that. Been quite a while, but I'm guessing I could still make basket weave belts in my sleep (and for a while, I think I DID).
  5. Yep, you can have this template. It's quite simple to use, simple to make in fact... I would hope that if somebody CHARGED YOU for a class that they taught you AT LEAST this! I don't know how long or how many 'lessons' you did, but I've never had any "training" and I can do this, so I assume anybody can Now, if somebody can just explain ta me why .. if you want to rotate a feature, you use the 'edit' menu, but to rotate the whole drawing you use the "image' menu ....
  6. Ah.. so you "deduced" that it's stamped "mexico".
  7. Okay... so over 2 weeks, and no word on this. Card not charged, items not shipped.... did I just WASTE time AGAIN?@!
  8. Yeah, I wouldn't be able to do this one without seeing more detail. Tough to even tell how it was put together... glue, thread, lace, or some combination of those?@! I don't think this girl wanted a historical discussion of the drawing.. she was hoping somebody would REPLACE IT for her.
  9. Overall, I rather like the look of it. I had the same initial reaction to the back of the stitching, but that's easily replaced if you decide to. See how comfortable it is to use. I'm wondering if the combination of straight drop and high leading edge might be a bit awkward? Just the way I'm built, I prefer not to have to pull that high.
  10. paint base color. dip end of sponge or rag in darker second color, then dab on a cloth or scrap of leather to get "most" of the dye out of the sponge wipe the [lightly loaded] sponge down the edge. Best to start light and build up the color... you can always add more but you can't take it back.
  11. I'm getting that too.. and not seeing from where. I guess what's causing that is a secret (though I suspect we may be asking in the wrong place).
  12. Lasers is all the 'thing' these days. I "get" it... set it and forget it type thing.... like production on a mini mini mini scale. But I would be interested to see how this thing weathered the last 8 years after being BURNED
  13. I like the case. I like the idea. I like the layout and the color. I will like it with a fox Care for one suggestion from a guy who admits he doesn't make these (but does fish)? ETA: Wait.. is that buckle tab riveted or sewn down on the under side?
  14. From the album: Seriously ...

  15. Here's one more just finished up. IWB "tuckable" holster 'n' single mag for bullpup9. Hard to photo that chocolate brown... looks reddish at some angles and not at others. But a quick phone-pic...
  16. Tha's natural cowhide under ostrich leg. And thanks Here's the "top view"... (back panel is removable)
  17. Thanks - i'll have to look into that... something without plating...
  18. Working a bit again today. But working on normal human male stuff (always and again).. no 'ornaments' or 'gay apparel' involved Are these screws and washers available in chocolate brown?
  19. Yeah, those were big files I shrank em to about 35% and still big. I git a bit more time I'll need to mess with the quality a bit... see if I can make out more detail. GrandDad got some MILES out of this one. Anybody recognize it?
  20. I'd take a look at that. What schedule we on here? jeff@jlsleather.com
  21. No, I mean you see those "profiles' or whatever they're called on different sites... where the guy (or often the gal) has the same profile pic for like 20 years. I mean, WHY EVEN HAVE a profile pic of yourself if it's not the way you look? So this pic must be 8,9 years old? I inadvertently became one of them!
  22. Really must get a minute when I get a break to get a new picture up.... that old one is YEARS old - that little girl in the Dora socks is now telling me what I should be making ...
  23. messaged
