Increase the pressure on the presser foot. The leather may be lifting up and losing the loop so the hook can't catch it when you are on thick or harder leather. Happened to me last week!

I've cleaned nasty smelling hides with liquid saddle soap, soaked well and rinsed well after that.

Same procedure as uploading a picture, just select the PDF file on your device. Has same size requirements for all uploads. So don't try to attach more than one file. You'll see a little further back that I edited and uploaded a file from his dropbox. The second file would have been accepted if the total hadn't gone over the size limit. (And for larger files, send me a message and I will give you an address to send the file to and will upload it. I have no file size restriction, at least not any that I have tried to see what it was. 20 or 30 MB.)

Many ranchers and feed lot operators here use ear tags too. But when cattle are rustled and ear tags cut off, it's hard to identify the owner. Has been some big thefts in this area in the last couple months. Costing owners thousands $. They pull into a pasture or leased grazing area with a couple large cattle liners, load up and off they go! Many of these locations do not have any homes within miles/kilometres.

I have a "horse of a different colour" as the old saying goes. When I was a teenager, I bought a horse from the Blood Reserve (natives). He had a lazy B on the right shoulder as that was an identifier for the Blood Reserve, and a 121 on the right hip signifying the native who had owned it. So 2 brands, but only 1 previous owner. I would also guess that sometimes cattle were re-branded when sold to a different ranch/owner, though I hadn't seen any such cases in my few years around cattle, farms, and ranches as a teen.

The angled bolt looks like it is part of a motor tension system. Also looks similar to brackets used to clamp work lights to a table.

I think you have been using pre-lubricated thread. Several years ago, Tandy supplied white pre-lubricated thread in 1# spools. I have purchased pre-lubricated thread here. "We are now having our own brand of bonded and pre-lubricated* nylon and polyester thread made for us, under the Cowboy label." I have been using their thread for several years. It's not as "wet" as the Tandy thread was, hardly leaves any deposit on the needle, most of the time, not noticeable at all.
