I’ve done this and it’s like using antiquing paste on painted letters. The paste doesn’t really change the leather color because it’s protected (the pores are filled in). But if you use the liquid antique (eco flo) it will more than likely change it some if it’s not protected enough

Are you saying that they would use this to get high? I’m seriously trying to find out what they use in California vs every other state.

So in short use in a well ventilated area (use a fan to push or pull fumes away) do my use ANY leather dye as mouthwash, gargle with, drink or smoke, do not bath or shower with (this includes douching), do not dry mass quantities and use as chewing gum, do not use as tatto ink, nor should it be used as eye makeup or liner, lipstick and rouge are strongly discouraged, do not use as rectal bleaching or coloring, do not dry to a powder and snort through nostrils, do not use as ear wash, should never be used as eye drops, I believe I have covered most of the things you should never do with any dye! But in the same breath I have never seen a puppy get sick after chewing up an expensive pair of Italian dress shoes! do not let children chew on leather - dyed or not!!!

Nice look, be careful though, Michael Kors might make that same purse and charge hundreds and use non-leather material and not even say thanks for the awesome idea

I’m wanting to see the mechanics of how the closure is made

No, seriously! Or is this a harsh response????

Thanks Fred, NFO was applied the day before, I called FIEBINGS and the guy seemed like he was doing a Fetterman impression. The grayness been happening down thru the years and I thought it was a chemical reaction because it doesn’t happen with the USMC black. I’m guessing at this point that FIEBINGS is cutting too many corners to meet better profit margins!!!! Does anyone know of a black dye, other than FIEBINGS, that can be purchased in 32 ounces or larger, and still in USA?!???!? Im in North Carolina so we don’t have the restrictions California does. Looks like I’m gonna have to make vinagroon - lol

So what. Dye is allowed in California, is it pro dye or the NON-pro dye. And who is making such odd decisions for free citizens???????

Something like this needs details for the guys that want to build it

I’m having a bad time with gray off color marks while using FIEBINGS black pro dye and it’s on all the veg tan that I use, not just a certain piece. If anyone knows WTH is causing this please enlighten me. This is actually an SOS at this point. I have used leather cleaner, denatured alcohol, paint thinner, dye prep, and others to lengthy to list

Aside from sewing machines, stay away from “Made In China” , keep to the made in USA and vintage as stated. Do not use Etsy (mostly China garbage) get to know the folks on here, chuck123 is like Yoda, Wild Harry, and a few others are awesome. I have been doing leather for 51 years and still have questions

1851 Colt Conversion Holsters
Doc Reaper replied to JWheeler331's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Nice job on the holsters, I have had the same problem with the dyes (Fiebings dark brown) and the leather came from the same bend, still hard to say why I had two different shades. Maybe because it was the location on the bend, maybe because one holster was a bit wetter from being freshly tooled. Or maybe, just maybe, it may of been an involuntary temporary power interruption of the antimagnetic particle storm shield. -
Ask for more pictures, then ask where they are located, actually ask for an address. I had some guy ask me what an old (50 plus years old) and I had asked how he got my name. He states that he got it off of leatherworker.net and stated that I was listed as a moderator - I knew he was lying his tail off. He sent a picture of an old machine that was dusty and rusted then told me that he has a number of leather cutting dies, I told him that the machine is only worth $200 because of the age, also added that if he gets the dies together I would work with him. His email name is Ken Young. If he contacts ya again - screw with him a bit and get hold of another member here on leather worker, make him think that you know another guy willing to pay twice what he wants. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander

SERIOUSLY!!! With the logic behind that question you should be removing all manmade items from your home - including the home!

How to lighten a leather that has been dyed?
Doc Reaper replied to MTobergte's topic in How Do I Do That?
I have used a rag with paint thinner in it and rub briskly, continuously, moving the rag around, so the die doesn’t load it up -
Hell, make a set and use black, white, and red. I had a Seiko Divers Watch and it came with a black rubber strap. The watch sucked at keeping time, it was replaced with a cheap $15 Timex that did the job required by Marine Corps standards. The leather is ok if it will NOT see salt water. Salt water will ruin leather! If it’s just used for aesthetics then use either one of the other 3 colors I have suggested. Keeping in mind that aside from accents that favor the watch, the band itself may clash with the shirt being worn, that’s why I mentioned making a set

Merry Christmas to all, it’s Friday 2:45am and 46F h ere in North Carolina, the temperature will fall throughout the day. By 6am Saturday morning it will be 7 degrees Fahrenheit and it will take 7 days to get up to 55ish, global warming fat patootie!

In the case of the exploded 13-year-old, the previous owner of Twitter should be found, and find then jailed

That is a cool find, the clearance on that machine is 3/8 to 1/2 inch. The motor is an old type, it looks like it might fit on that machine but I’d need some better pictures, the motor may take a few seconds to Rev up before using. It’s worth a few dollars but it is an older machine. If the pully turns smoothly it can still work as a normal machine.

Thank Dude, but It won’t let you sign in

Where did you get this awesome pattern, I want one

Speedy stitcher suck

Get a strap cutter! If you buy premade straps you can still use the strap cutter to make keepers and other smaller straps. I use a belt endpunch to get the shape of an arrow head, I think it’s called an English point. Sturme has enough info to help you get going. stay away from ANYTHING MADE IN CHINA, no matter how low the price! They don’t care of the quality they sell you as long as they get your money! Just enjoy and don’t overthink or dwell on items. The patterns on Etsy are good - again STAY AWAY FROM CHINA! If they say they have warehouses all over - it’s China Get the pattern mailed to you, some say you can use your printer but it’s mostly a nightmare. NOTHING FROM CHINA! If the entire world avoided China we can stop a lot of nonsense

Design software for pattern making?
Doc Reaper replied to Queipo37's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Sit down, think about what you want. Square or round? Most guys think it’s easier to buy a pattern than it is to make them. Design on paper how you want it to look. Make it a simple one, keep the design simple and then add to it
