  1. yes I had assumed your were only talking about the 'Plates" so the part numbers where clearer. the PDF is excellent in all other accounts as you say.
  2. Leathersmyth I assume it was too difficult to scan the original manual? Just curious as I am now looking at one of these machines....
  3. That's a clever idea and seems to work well.
  4. Thanks Regis... and yes i was definitly inspired by packing iron... just looked through it again last week actually.
  5. Just give the knife a wipe down before cutting the bread I assume would work if someone tried it. I think the discussion I saw originally it was knife that was not intended to used on food so no real concern there. Still want some bread.....
  6. Another one from the archive I was just reminded about when talking about a holster recently posted and asking what gun it was for. This goes with a Crosman 1861 Shiloh pellet pistol which is modeled after the U.S. Civil War Remington cap and ball revolver. I was using up some harness leather which tooled OK but very hard to edge but it ended up with an oldie tymme feel to it. First toe plug as well and I am OK with how it came and learned a few does and don'ts. it is boarder stamped, creased and rolled boarder patterned as well.... why not eh? It was made for fun and me and I was very fond of it but on a cash raising campaign I sold it with one of my Shilohs. Perhaps time to make a new one!
  7. There is a saying don't patch an old cloth with a new cloth... has to do with differential shrinkage in a physical sense...something different spiritually. it may be the two pieces weren't completely done drying from the dye and oil and continued to shrink slightly and pull on each others flesh sides... or the grain was trying to shrink and the flesh was locked in by the glue? either way there was differential shrinkage happening perhaps. May be dunk the belt and then hang it under tension.... this may pull out some of the wrinkles? its all I got. Good luck.
  8. I love the antique brace spots on the main seem and the beading is beautiful. Lefty eh? Cant wait to see the CAS rig that goes with this! What goes with it? looks like a Navy or Shiloh of come sort rather than the old SA Army..... lets the iron!
  9. I dug out my clamping things.. I made a clamp/jig for holster main seems which work with most profiles, and there is the special vice grips with the wide flat jaws (some from of welders clap perhaps) with leather lining and then the collection of wooding pieces of various length and these very handy mini vice grips. Just some of the things I have had to come up with.
  10. That is a fine sheath and we all feel your pain on the bouncing stamp syndrome... for some reason this reminded me of erasing somewhere once that a fella coating the inside of a sheath with jewellers rouge so the knife was stropped in and out of it... anyhow now I want some sourdough as well.
  11. Very classy. Lets see what thing you make for the bigger thing that those smaller things go into! Double stack 9mm things? for what big thing?
  12. As above, rotary cutters, head knifes, straight edges, clamps. I have a 3x5x1/4 HDPE sheet on my cutting table so able to get a good continuous run at long straight cuts. and punching on 1" HDPE on about 3/4 granite on 3 inches of built up wood directly over a 4x4 leg to the concrete and for some tools all that with a poundo matt on top. and 2lb polly head mallet or maul. Misplaced stitch you can remove and re-place right away with a careful placement of a new hole with the awl, wobbly lines (made with a creaser or round stylus type indent line) can often be smoothed with a modelling spoon/tool then done....hole in the wrong place.... bad... or adapt the design! use it in a new way or cover it or add one systemically off the other side of the piece and call it part of the design. Welcome aboard and lets some of your work as you go.
  13. PICTURES!!!! I love well made wood bits and metal bits.
  14. They just ended up round when I inserted one of my metal loop sticks and was carefully when hammering not to square it...one side is a little squared off but only I can tell... it is bright steel at the cutting edge and whipped down with mineral spirits so no staining. And I got a better file and had at it again with more shaping and sharpening and am much happier with it now. Still need to cap to help save the mallet head and spread the blow better but perhaps I can get on tomorrow.
  15. From scanning the forum I already know Big Sioux will say! I have a Pfaff 335 and 1245 and now stumbled on a deal for a Landis 1 in perfect operating order (just not needed in the maker's stable anymore - saddle maker). How many would say it would be a worthy addition to the machine room? I make some heavy gear but sew it all by hand for now and will continue fro holsters and sheaths but I see more gun belts and tack and hopefully a crack at a saddle in my next years. Thoughts?
  16. Oh Snap!!! glad it is getting better as hardware can add real frustration near the end of a hard build....
  17. Classics always work both the holster design and of course sticking 1911's in them. I like the peppler and the floral fits the pouch perfectly. Are they belt tunnel or clips on the back side? Nice grips.....
  18. I like re-using the cut outs as coaster! this is very cool. what weights did you use for outer and liner? it could be cool inside to make a small "box" between the cups for those who take the cream and sugar separate.
  19. I had to use some black pipe for something else and so I though I would try banging a piece of it into a slot punch for belt slots. as the math would have it 1"ID flattens to just about 1.5 long and .75 wide. the shape worked well and with what I have on hand for sharpening... hand wheel grinder , some files and 600 paper it work but needs some professional sharpening help. tomorrow I will temper it (torch heat and then oil dunk) and then when the sharpening guy comes by in his little van next time I will ask him if he can do a better job.... I also need to take some material off to lessen the slant away from the edge but hey for a butcher it makes me happy... two whacks and it goes through hard 12oz..almost 1/4" harness leather as seen here. I kept the pre-threaded end and will put a cap on it to help the hammering and also it will keep the off cuts inside for a while. And its long enough to get a full wrap on it and still not have to hit myself (heard that happens..) Amy suggestion what to do next other than my plan?
