I haven't really had any problems with bellies. They supposedly aren't the best for tooling or heavy strap goods, but I wouldn't worry about making anything else out of them. As long as you aren't putting a lot of stress on the fibers they should be fine. Knife sheaths, bags, tool pockets, bracelets, wallets, any kind of covers should be good as well. Now, that being said, I wouldn't sell an expensive tooled molded pancake holster out of the stuff. Guns are heavy. Just keep in mind that bellies aren't the toughest part of the hide. And just because it's a belly doesn't mean it's junk. Have fun.

So far, I like my crafttool pros. And the handles are one of my favorite things to hold.

If I had it to do all over again, I would get the crimson hide version. The cheap chisels are fine. I have a full set of them. I have a 4mm set I have had for years now. When I get frustrated with expensive pricking irons I revert back to that trusted 4mm set. I like my Wuta 3.85mm but they don't make them any larger. The crimson hide versions can be had in 3.85, 4, and 5mm. They have smaller sizes as well.

It is like that with all of their stuff. I think it's designed to keep people in the dark. That way they spend more money trying to put it all together. I have the 0 and the 00. The 00 is great for small stuff. As far as what it compares to? I just don't know. I use the 00 on wallets and the 0 on belts and straps. But, I will say this, that handle is fabulous in the hand.

Generally yes. If you want to tool the holsters and sheaths then definitely. But if not, you could use several different veg tan leathers or even some stiffer chrome tanned leather. Veg tan can be bridle, latigo, harness, or some others I'm forgetting. There are also combination tanned leathers that use both the veg tan and the chrome tanned process. Like horween chrome excell aka cxl. I just got a very thick side of this leather. I think it would make a great holster. Most of these I have mentioned are processed with a hot stuffing method that uses lots of oils and waxes. They are made to stand up to the abuse if the elements. But, they won't take tooling or even molding very well. I am by no means an expert on the subject. But I will offer this up. Collect different leathers. Look for great deals and experiment. You will find all kinds of things to make with all the different types of leather. Tooling leather is always going to be more expensive than the others. And, it's not always what you want for a particular project. Have fun.

It should be veg tanned tooling leather. I believe 4-5 ounce is the thinnest you want to go on thickness (someone correct me if I'm wrong). If you are just starting out, use up scraps for practice, then buy the nicest you can afford.
