Try 1 larger size needle.

I may be being a little harsh so get some other opinions before ya thank me . I dont have one of those machines but they arent new and with there advertised capabilities I cant imagine why people would buy say a 227 over the 26 for example. I know if I was stitching say motorcycle seats with 3 layers of upholstery leather with 92 thread and also doing holsters with 1/4 to 3/8 veg and only needed say 207 thread I would just get one of these to do it and be done instead of grabbing a 227r and a 3500 for example. Yeah I know the 3500 and others can do 138 thread but stitching upholstery leather on them is a challenge, it can be done but I wouldnt want to make a habit out of it. I had to use my 4500 until I got my 211g155 sewing correctly and will admit as good as the 4500 is for thicker stuff it is not remotely close to the best option for upholstery items. They seem like pretty darn nice machines. Who knows, maybe they were recently cloned so just started being available. Im sure Steve wouldnt lead you astray in saying it would meet your needs. There is another forum member that bought one a little bit back and think you should look up his thread and send him a PM asking about the machine. Seemed to be satisfied with his purchase (his wife also). Here ya go

Great sort of simple design and excellent execution. Only thing I have a question about is the end of the thread run where you wrap the thread around the end of the leather. To me it looks like a place that would wear out the thread and cause breakage eventually. Don't know as I haven't really used that style very often. Have you had any issues with that at all?

There are a couple of threads on this machine, seems to be suddenly getting a little more attention. They weren't really advertised until recently it seems. I imagine because of its ability to fit the bill for a inbetween machine that would allow a lot of customers to get away with just one machine vs buying a larger and smaller machine. It advertises as handling up to 277 and 5/8" leather and down to 46 thread so this would cover a decent amount of peoples work.

I don't think it will actually help with cutting as they both cut about the same, it is just a minor difference in the tooled work between the two. Regardless if you like the lighter leather you will be happy with the WC. Everything from them I have tried has been really nice as far as there standard line of leathers go. Plus you can order a top grade back one at a time, even there lower grades are nice hides atleast the ones I have gotten have been.

Not necessarily, lots of different makers of latigo with different recipes. This isnt the first thread about the tandy latigo bleeding on stuff. Generally speaking if you spend what you do at tandy at anyplace else you will get a better piece of leather. Check out Maverick or wickett and craig directly, goliger has some good prices, hide house......

Ill take the pieces for sale in this thread. Thanks.

Bravo Ill take the rest available in this thread. Thanks.

Nicely done. Coloring that stamping looks like it took a little patience.

WC and HO IMHO are pretty comparible in terms of firmness. They are both very nice. I think the firmness thing comes from the WC having a fluffier (not sure how to describe it) topside. Over all WC is as firm but the top of it is a little softer I would say, gives a slightly different look to the tooling. Its almost easier to get the nice rounded effect with WC. HO is slightly darker and darkens easier with some oil and sunlight. Both darken nicely but HO is a tad better if your looking for that sort of thing. Ofcourse you can get the russet color from WC so you start out slightly darker yet it still dyes just as well. The natural WC is a lighter color which I think makes the dyes stand out better when using colors. Overall either one is great leather.

Singer 111W155 presser foot adjustment
MADMAX22 replied to Ole South's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Uwe on my 111w155 that linkage has enough room to clear the hole on the side without making contact of any sort, curious if they had different machining specs on these things for that portion of the body. -
Machine company with best customer service?
MADMAX22 replied to Jordanball33's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
You could use it for wallet interiors. For the outside its up to you. Sheaths belts and holsters are gonna use 138 on up depending on the look and holding ability you want. In general terms dress belts 138, double layer gun belts 207-415 (I usually use 277) sheaths 207-415 (I usually use 207 or 277) holsters 207-415 (I usually use 277). Ask Bob though as I may be confusing some of the models feeding capabilities, regardless for the price increase for the higher capability 3500 is worth it IMHO especially since sheaths and some holsters can get pretty darn thick. I just thought there was a difference in the 3200 and 3500 but could of been thinking of the 2500 vs 3500. -
Look up the I think its a CW-8B or even the 153w103 (same without reverse for the most part). Anyhow I wouldnt worry about it as much as you are IMHO. If you want to turn it over just turn it off, hand wheel the machine over. If the servo has a brake which will make it hard to turn over just push the go pedal a little bit till it loosens up and hand wheel it over. When I got my 4500 from neel I just put it together, put some leather under it and went to town. Had a couple questions and chatted with Neel for a little while and he got me squared away. Dont be afraid to give him a call.

Make sure there isnt a hole just inboard of the table for your foot lift line to goo thru, looks like its rubbing on the table. If it doesnt you may think about doing such. Neel is good to work with and the machine should work just fine. Read over the manual like anything else new to you and have fun. Dont forget to oil it properly before starting.

Machine company with best customer service?
MADMAX22 replied to Jordanball33's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Support you the webmaster , na but really they advertise to sell there services. Yes lots of them are on the forums and answer alot of questions and they also get a ton of referrels from this site and sell alot of machines either directly or indirectly from primarily content on this site and the ads that the forum gets paid for. Doubt they pay the forum out of the kindness of there heart like some of us have. They all advertise that these big machines handle that range or in the case of say the 4 class bigger thread. Yes they can theoretically but if your stitching with 69 or even 92 thread into a couple or few layers of upholstery leather there are far better machines. If your sticking with thinner layers say 12oz of softer temper leather and less than 207 thread than the 26, 20, 18, 227 ...... are more versatile and easier to setup for that situation. To add I would save up if your getting the bigger stitcher and grab the 3500. Its a better overall machine with better resale, better feeding for leather that you want to avoid marks on, -

MADMAX22 replied to Uwe's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Couple of tips to make it easier is use a center punch to mark your holes (not sure if you did or not) and then drill pilot holes with a small drill bit. This can help align the larger drill. Purely if you want, I sometimes will when doing free hand metal drilling. Another thing is measure how deep you want it to go and wrap your drill bit at that depth with electrical tape. This will generally stop your drill bit at the depth you want it to, unless ofcourse you have drill stops in which case ya already know what to do. Thanks for the good guide on setting this up Uwe, should help out to many members. -
Machine company with best customer service?
MADMAX22 replied to Jordanball33's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
There are several. Bob toledo sewing, Steve cobra sewing, Ron Techsew, Neel Neels saddlery are the few I have personally been provided excellent service from. Not sure about in your area though. Imagine Bob or Neel are the closest to you. -
I have not heard good things about mercury sewing machines but that isnt always saying much. I would think its the same as a nakajima 280l which is like the national machines. I had a similar question about a nakajima machine and Uwe posted a good comparison chart to juki. Do a search for a juki du-241h and see if your machine looks like it.

What leather for turned corner bag?
MADMAX22 replied to seriousallthetime's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
IMHO the WC bridle is there tooling leather with a nice dye and finish applied to it. Its a pretty nice leather. Dont think they make walnut colored but maverick takes some liberties in descriptions. Get the 5oz or 3oz, it will be about as easy to do that style bag as regular vegtan would be with one exception, it doesnt take water as easily so you cant wet form it or moisten it to help invert the bag and get the corners squared away. Anyhow its nice leather usually and should make a nice looking bag. -

What needle size do I need for my Singer 31-15
MADMAX22 replied to Natcamp's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
What year is your machine? Heard the early ones only run up to 69, mine a later year runs 92 no issue. Need to get some needles myself as using random ones that came with the machine. -
Didn't you just get a machine like 2 days ago Looks like it wouldn't be too hard to clean up and other wise looks in decent shape.
-
Not sure think Uwe got that from Toledo sewing, seems they vary from your price on up depending on where you get em at. Oh and pretty sure I was off looks like they are more around $20 from overseas. Not sure what you guys get them for.

The timing belt if old may have formed a set somewhat. My 111 had a old belt on it and when it turned over it was very stiff, the belt eventually snapped and I realized how old and brittle it was. New belt made a world of difference. For the motor you can get the thinner belts in various lengths at the auto parts store, they usually have a large selection of the outdoor equipment belts in various lengths or do what I do and order a bunch of link belt and you can make any length you want and it gets rid of any vibration. Others will have more advice.

Or if your hand drawing on art paper then transferring to your leather. I dont particular like to draw patterns on tracing paper personally.
