  1. Haha. I HATE that they call Colorado Springs "Southern Colorado " or even worse SoCo. The north side of the Springs is MM 149, I-25 is 300 miles north to south. Id call it CENTRAL Colorado. Lol.
  2. There is also Sheridan in May. And then you can go to the King Saddlery and Al Stohlman museum. And it's much closer to Collins.
  3. I dye after I burnish. The edge is harder and doesn't soak in as fast. I use a small dauber burned down to not much bigger than a Q Tip. Go slow and easy.
  4. I saw on Instgram that one of the guys at Springfield Leatjer is doing a tooled one. Maybe check with them or their Instagram might have some ideas for you. They are generally pretty helpful. I've called and talked to Kevin the owner and was always helpful.
  5. They are T pockets. It can be pretty hard to make them invisible. It's a way to cut down on bulk. They best way I've found is to make the bottom pocket longer than needed. Then you can butt the T pocket TIGHT and still be able to trim the bottom pocket. If that all makes sense. And those pic and wallets look plenty good for ETSY. I also agree to use a darker background on the lighter ones.
  6. I have that pattern also. I leave the tabs long when I cut them out. Then after I attach to the center section I can get them cut nice and flush so you can get a good edge and burnish.
  7. Did he ask for his money back?
  8. A lot of people call it a quilting pattern too. From what I've heard. Even spaced straight lines cut with a swivel knife and your seeder of choice. Tt one guy he uses a protractor at 30 degrees.
  9. I've done the same with old wood matches.
  10. I do have some teak oil. Will put some of that on. Colorado is a dry state. Humid is 25%.lol
  11. I would love the buy the leather he sells. I can't afford to so I buy W/C and dye the colors I need.lol
  12. Am Stohlman's Art of Making Cases is where I always start. The Kodak camer case or Cigarette case are dated of course. But always solid foundations and give you an idea how to measure whatever you are trying to make.
  13. There are a couple that are loose/stripped. They are also cracked that's why I was thinking bolts. Woods a bit dry also.lol
  14. A thread burner works nice too. Basicly a super tiny soldering iron that runs on a AA battery. Look in the heading section of craft stores.
  15. Just putting up some extra pics in case anyone is interested. Lol
  16. Hate to do it but I think I'm gonna have to replace the screws on the upper hinge with carriage bolts. And probably use a carriage bolt to hold the strap instead of nails to the pivot arm. It looks like they have replaced the strap a couple times. Also need to beef up the locking leg as its split. Thinkimg wet rawhide strap wrapped on it. Never used before bit understand that its strong when dried.
  17. Hey Yin, can we see the inside? Do you put heavier leather under the 3 oz when stamping?
  18. It's an oily leather that changes color when you bend or fold it. A lot of times a light scratch will disappear when rubbed briskly(heat and friction). Hard to glue easily because of the oils. Looks rustic usually. If you look up Maverick leather on Instagram they show the "pullup" of the leathers the are selling in 5 second videos.
  19. No clue. It is OLD. Haven't found any markings on it. Flat head screws and saw a horse shoe nail repair. It seems to be hand made. It's rough not polished like it was made for sale. If you know what I mean.
  20. After a year and about 30 antique shops finally found one! $85.00 need to replace the leather strap and wrap the jaws in leather but should be good to go after that. Still pretty tight just a bit of a wiggle.
  21. Nothing wrong with being a truck driver fer sher.lol I've done it for 25 yrs. Went into dispatch for 6 months and hated it. My dad, mom, and brother were all truck drivers. My brother now a union equipment operator. Makes $35 hr. I would hate that.I can fix cars. Hate it. Can do wood work. Hate it. I have come to realize I'm just a truck driver.
  22. I don't really understand how a machine burnisher is ok but sewing machine not. I hand stitch because I like the way it looks and like doing it. It reminded me of that YouTube video on "handmade firewood"
