  2. Seriously wearing a gun at your wedding, what a strange request
  3. Are you positive it has a Needle position function, as it looks like some consew motors don't have that option
  4. Are you looking for the end product in steel or Nylon' for the gears, I doubt the bar would stand up long term in |nylon but the gears should
  5. I was watching Suzi on the repair shop a few months ago making repairs to a leather item and she used a tape that was made of parchment, very thin and near transparent, but according to her exceptionally strong and flexible, she used it where holes had pulled out stuck to the flesh side. No idea where she got it from
  6. Wow what a excellent restoration well done
  7. No its not its metal objects used in horse tack and a very old livery company
  8. There are some nice looking double belt folders at College sewing at reasonable price and quite adjustable https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/folders-attachments/suisei-folders-attachments/suisei-straight-folders/suisei-belt-loop-folders.html
  9. But could they think of it, make it; and most importantly market it well enough, to sell it in early 1900's a shoe making company sent a salesman to Africa who stayed there for a 6 month period and then cam home with no orders, he told his boss they wont buy shoes they all walk around bare footed A few months latter the same company took a gamble and sent a second salesman to the same place, after a month had passed they got a telegram from Africa stating "Sent as many shoes as you can great market here and no competition"
  10. Hi Folks Looking for two things on my singer 111G155 first a swing up guide and second a binder Photo shows holes already on machine wondering if any can be used for the above as I don't really feel confident drilling more holes, No idea of any of these holes are threaded or not, welcome all suggestionsand if possible links to items that may fit
  11. With CAD it's getting harder to produce poor quality, as the cad software can test tolerances' and interfacing between surfaces plus load test so well. that quality is always rising on many but not all goods, we can see that on the 3d Made items shown on this forum, but, and a big but, many items were not set up using 3D and still producing the same old quality
  12. I think most people judge on how good your work is theses days rather than qualifications, being a master xxx does not always mean you keep to the same standard as when you qualified, Reputation takes a lot of work and effort to achieve, yet easily lost
  13. China is no different than the UK, USA or Australia, You buy cheap and you get cheap, you pay the money for quality and you get quality, all countries produce products made to a price range, but don't expect high quality and long life plus service to come with low priced items Juki and others have not lowered their quality being made outside Japan, but they have reduced their labour costs significantly
  14. With thin leather straps i was taught to cut four times the width required plus 6 times the thickness, fold into the centre and then fold both sides together and sew
  15. Doctor is a academic qualification and there are different qualities of academia, Accountant is not a protected qualification any one can use the title
  16. We have lots of guilds or Royal Charters / Associations etc still in the UK though their powers have been diminished over the years so non members can often compete be it accountants , Surveyors saddle makers and so on we also have fresh start ups like Guild of master craftsmen but i understand that's just a marketing thing with no practical or academic qualifications needed. Germany i think still has very powerful guilds
  17. This will help with thread size vis needle size https://www.tolindsewmach.com/thread-chart.html
  18. You only have to go back to say 1940 when Horse power was the main user of leather, (at least in Europe) with Massive heavy horses out in all weather's pulling farm equipment or teams of horses pulling carriages of all sorts day in day out to find the reason for the relationship between leather names and the horse. Today we chose leather generally for light use imitation gun belts, riding a horse in fine weather for a few hours (yes I know some cowboys still live on their horse) knife sheathes that hardly get wet apart from the odd occasion. In the old days your tack was a major investment; and you could not afford to not get the best you could afford, so brought leather items for the intended task to use in all weathers 24/7
  19. Might be cheaper to add sound proofing to your work space or rent a different workspace as all machines make noise. Is the neighbour next to where you work or above or below, depending where they are situated sound proofing may be the best option If you place a thick matt under the machine that may help reduce noise or a rubber mat under the work table
  20. It's a open phrase, it means different things to different people
  21. You could always pay a local (to the machine) machine person to check it out for you, though a 3-5 hour drive is not that much of a problem to many and means you can bring the machine home at the same time
  22. Sorry but your marketing is crap, you had the opportunity to tell us the benefits of your fish leather the story behind your company; and where we could buy it, what a golden opportunity missed. it's no use making a product if you don't know how to sell it or make people aware of its benefits Sell us the product and why we should buy from you
