  1. Looks great.
  2. In one of his books on coloring leather, Al Stohlman said to never use dye straight. Better to do several coats diluted. While I DO use them straight on occasion, usually I dilute 1part dye to whatever of 99% alcohol. 2 parts is normal, but I have diluted as much as 7-1. The color you want is there, you just have to find it.
  3. I did the same on this bag.
  4. Very nice!
  5. Very well done!
  6. I carried a pocket watch for 45 years, finally gave it up when I started carrying a cell phone. Haven't carried a watch since. I hate anything around my wrists, won't even wear the wristband at the hospital. Third time I cut it off they figured out they were wasting their time.
  7. Two different hides will take dye differently, just like two different pieces of wood will take stain differently.
  8. The POINT is you don't need a round beveler to get a round edge.
  9. No, if you moisten the edge and use a round profile burnisher, you will get a round edge.
  10. And then I burnish the waxed thread with a piece of brown paper bag.
  11. The square ones will still give you a round edge after you burnish it.
  12. Nice rifle!! And leathercraft is an addiction, not a hobby. Welcome to the club. But I really need to ask, what is that HUGE encumbrance on the front of the rifle?
  13. I use the cereal boxes as well. Before I lost my little buddy, I used the Alpo Variety Snaps. They are twice as thick as cereal or cracker boxes. If I need more sq ft then I go to the college bookstore.
  14. We have a really great mailman. Ken drive in and honk and if we're not home e leaves the slip in the box. But if we have a sub, the lazy a..hole won't even bring it from t post office, just leaves the slip saying "No secure location".
  15. I went to their website last night and found that the only linen they have is far bigger than I use. So, I guess I won't be ordering/trying any of their products.
  16. I bought some at the Pendleton show a few years back, but the only size they had at the time was far larger than I use. Still haven't found a use for it, so I may have to order some of a smaller diameter. As for piercing the thread, I haven't done that in 20+ years, it's just not necessary. The wax can be cleared from the eye by a couple quick passes through a candle or lighter flame.
  17. Welcome from central Washington.
  18. I've been booted from a couple of forums for telling the other members the truth, that THEY were being jerks and driving new members away with their negativity and elitist attitudes. Some people can't handle the truth.
  19. Totally irrelevant. It probably occurred shortly after production. As many above have stated, it is a non-issue. You can either spend less than 5 minutes on them and start using them, or you can wait for however long it takes for one of the two companies to send you replacements that may have the same issue.
  20. Does not look like anything I would worry about. If you have any rouge rub it on a cloth and buff it out.
  21. Based on your pictures I would say That you want Line 24 snaps. Snaps - Nickel, Brass, Antique & Gunmetal - Montana Leather Company Amazon.com : line 24 snaps
