1.3-1.5mm Italian cowhide upholstery leather. I have 3 full cowhides available, one in Navy, turquoise and hot pink, didn’t use them like I thought I would. Each vary in size, but around 50-55 sq ft total. Selling by the square foot at $5 per square foot. High quality and not cheap leather, stored inside in rolls.

i am wondering about how do the big factories finish the leather edges? what exactly do they use? which machines and materials to give the rubbery edge? i dont think they use giardini or vernice or fiebings or any other similar edge coat...... bec. i checked the rubbery edge of favtory manufactured bags and i am sure it us not normal edge paint... also for mass production they need something fast and cheap to apply on thousands of bags per day... by the way whatever they use is very elastic and lasts long.... can anyone help?

Not a leather piece per se... but still, leather-related Lately, in addition to leather work, I've been interested in metal - knife making and such. I have been wanting to buy myself a good round head knife, but was put off by prices - they go for anything from $40-$100. So, I decided to take a stab at it myself. Designed a template in Photoshop, ordered 1084 knife metal, and voila! I was rather proud of my first attempt. Still, I can do better next time. This was a learning experience.

Hi everyone! I am planning to buy a sewing machine for a small business that I will start preferably next year. The sewing machines that have been offered to me are the following: 1. Juki DU 141NH 2. Juki DU 1181N 3. Mitsubishi LY2-300 BOB The machine that I need must be able to handle medium to heavy materials (I’ll be using a combination of canvas fabric and leather), as I’ll be making bags (backpack, small pouches and totebags). Also, the machine must be user-friendly and if changes need to be done, the machine parts must be easy to source. Each of the machine is being offered to me at $650.00. So I really need guys your expertise and recommendations as I am very new to this thing so my money and first sewing machine will be worth it! Looking forward for your suggestions. Have a good day everyone!

First off let me state that this was my first attempt at making a bag of this sort I usually make wallets lol Anyways I was asked by a customer to make a bag large enough for study material/books and some clothing items. My original idea was to make a tote with handles but along the way ended up deciding to make it a shoulder carry with a flap closure in case of unfavorable weather. So I basically Bit off more than I could chew and didnt manage my time well enough and ended up pulling an all-nighter to deliver on the deadline. Great learning experience and I realized I really like making bags. comments, critiques and questions always welcome. Thanks for looking !!

Been a while since I posted any of my works.. Here is a wallet and keychain I've made for myself it was time to retire my prototype wallet made out of chestnut buttero. New wallet is EPI leather in navy color for the outside and inside is Alran sully in marine color. Stitching is black waxed linen thread at 3.38mm spacing done with French style pricking irons. Edges are sanded then burnished and sanded again with 3/4 coats or vernis edge paint in marine color. thanks for looking !!

Hi Everyone, I'll be relocating to New Zealand (from the US) within the next several months and thinking about selling most of my industrial machines here, before I leave, and starting a-fresh there. The thinking is both to save on overseas shipping expenses, and also with the 220/240 voltage there, to get new equipment that is already set up for that current. Does anyone have any information about suppliers in New Zealand--equipment, leather, tools? Thanks for any suggestions. Jynelle

Hi folks! I have recently aquired a brother DB2 B755-3 for sewing some pretty pliable leather. I think I'm using the correct needle size - 16 x 231 (DB x 1) NM 110 Size 18 ... I find sewing machine needle systems a bit mindbending... but I'm concerned the thread I'm using is incorrect and not going to be strong enough with normal wear and tear. I've got Coats Nylbond, in size Tkt 040. it also says Tex 070 but not sure what that means! Any tips? Thanks so much!

Quick (and most likely rhetorical) question... When doing a straight line stitch, I get that I want to go back over my starting stitch to lock it in and then again at end. When doing the complete circumference of a piece (like going around a wallet) 360 degrees, do I need to do the same or does overlapping the starting stitch with the end by 2-3 stitches suffice. Thanks // Brian

I recently bought this saddle from an online auction and I am wondering if anyone can provide insight into the kind of saddle it is or history. The leather is in really great shape but I can’t find any markings with a brand or signature of who might’ve made it. Everything seems to be in really great shape except for the velvet covering the seat. With the little research I’ve done, I have a feeling this is a riding saddle for shows. I was wanting to resell it but didn’t know where to price it at. Any help would be greatly appreciate it.

Hi all, I am looking to get a company name. So far I’ve only been making for friends and just as gift. All have suggested I get a stamp and get a business name going too. I have thought of it and would like to try that path. I can’t seem to find anywhere how to get a company name. Like would I need to license the name? im a newbie here so any information to start up would help greatly!

Good day everybody , I received this sample from local tannery in Egypt ( where I live ) and they claim that's a veg tan leather but I don't really but it as there's a center line with dark grey centered in leather layers .. I tried the boiling water test it didn't curl up but it shrank about 20% of original length .. i don't know why it didn't curl on itself because it's not real veg tan or it's thick layer about 4mm The weird issue that rose is it got burnished very beautiful with glass-like edge with just wooden slicker and water so it got me mad because I can't decide what is that ?! THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP

My wife has a very nice Husqvarna sewing machine. It is in the attic and I have recently become handicapped and the attic is another one of those challenging places for me. Does anyone know if the better sewing machines by this manufacturer would have capabilities to work with light leather? I assume I would need special leather needles at the most minimal of standards and, of course, it may not even be possible. If I wanted to proceed by hand, what would be a good starter basic list of items to experiment? Any tips would be most appreciated. Regards, R. Craig

So the title may be a little misleading.. This is actually my 5th wallet but this is the first time I’ve ever posted my work on the site. I got into the craft about 1 year ago and found this site shortly after and have been trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I absolutely love working with leather and I try to make things as often as possible. Which isn’t as often as I’d like seeing as how I’ve made roughly 5 wallets and 3 card Holders and a couple key chains since I started As for my wallet it is made out of 2oz lollipop red horween chromexcel that I scored when Rocky Mountain had there sale a while back. It’s stitched with carriage natural hemp thread from Tandy and edge painted with vernis burgundy color.. I used French style pricking irons from wuta 3.38mm or 8 spi. I’m really looking for some critiques to see where I can improve. I mean I can see the flaws but I’m curious how it looks to other makers ( my wife just says “ohh that’s pretty or nice” ) Sooo not much help in that department. Anyways I’m really excited to hear what you all have to say. Thanks for looking! Castle -
